How common is keeping your groin shaved? (North America)

Wondering what percentage of people do this? I know that strippers and pron actors do this, of course, but so do other people for a variety of other reasons, like keeping cleaner, drier, cooler, etc.

At a large party with a late-night naked hot-tub at a friends house, would a totally shaved person be unusual?

Male or female?

It depends on age and gender, mostly. Just from anecdotal evidence from friends and acquaintances, I’d say between 60% and 80% of women aged 16-30 at the very least trim a lot down there, or shave completely.

For the same age range for men…no clue. I know several guys trim a little bit, but not nearly to the extent women do, on average. Usually we just cut the pubes back a little bit out of a courtesy to the fairer sex and to give us that “virtual inch,” as it were. :stuck_out_tongue:

Either.

Yes, a totally shaved male would be unusual.

I shaved my balls once. I did it for Science.[sup]1[/sup]

I didn’t like it.

[sub]1. OK, my roommate in college bet me $50 I wouldn’t do it. Easy money.[/sub]

My SO told me when we started dating that I needed to start trimming, and I told her she’d have to stop shaving. Something about a bald cooch squicks me out. Eventually she would shave me entirely for entertainment in the shower, and to this day I demand a mohawk in return. I’d say amongst college men you’d see 60-80% trimming, and 5-10% shaving.

I did once have a conversation with my (gay) friend about shaving - he had recently done it. Said it wasn’t too itchy, but that his boyfriends liked it.

He did note that everything looked bigger with the hair gone…

Just my own random thought - is liking a shaved groin in any way analogous to liking one that doesn’t grow hair at all (yet)?

Male in late 20s here. I don’t shave entirely but I trim my pubic region and armpits. Less sweat, easier to clean plus makes my little friend look bigger

I find an entirely shave netheregion increases sweat, or certainly my awareness of it. And to two posts above, I think that yes, a bald crotch on a woman looks too prepubescent - though I’d be very very slow to accuse someone that likes it to be pedophilic in any way.

<obligatory>Have you ever seen the sight of a freshly-shorn scrotum? I suggest you try it. It’s breathtaking.</obligatory>

Eh, I suspect it’s more closely analogous to liking shaved legs or underarms, at least on women. Speaking of which…

In the case of men, well, some men are naturally a lot hairier than others (e.g. hairy vs. hairless chests), and some straight women and gay men prefer more, some prefer less, hair on their men. There may not be an explanation beyond “Different strokes for different folks.”

I assume you mean breathtaking in a bad way. I once had my scrotum shaved for a surgery (a knee surgery - what was the guy thinking when he shaved me?) and it looked like I had a pair of hairless moles caught in my crotch. Large, manly hairless moles, mind you. Not pretty to me and it itched like hell as the hair grew back.

Women primarily shave/trim for cosmetic purposes. It just looks unsightly to have fur sticking out of of your panties or bathing suit.
Men tend not to shave/trim, they usually do not have as much hair to trim. The area is much to difficult to shave anyway.
My SO was simply a very bushy lady, but preffers to simply trim a bit. She conceeds that all that hair tends to get in the way. I would agree.

If went completely bald, I’d have a odd looking circularish bald patch down there between my fuzzy belly and thighs…so that would entail shaving all-over to compensate, which is a considerably bigger investment of grooming time…

You need to watch those Zoroastrians. They’re tricky.

I did see some bad pr0n with a guy looking like that, the equivalent of a neckbeard i suppose.

I shaved once (I’m a man), and afterward I felt like a little baby.

One must consider whether he is a grower or a shower before taking that step.

That said, 5 inch pubic hair is rarely sexy, and a trim might be in order.

Men don’t have as much pubic hair as women?? If that’s your point, I’m going to disagree.

Male. I shaved everything once just for shits and giggles and I have to say it was soooo itchy I almost clawed my eyes out. Never again.
