Isn’t a sore throat a symptom? I think it’s more important to determine what is causing the sore throat and if that cause is contagious.

Uh, yeah, a sore throat is a symptom. Any number of things could cause it, from non-contagious allergies, to contagious viruses or bacteria.

Whenever I get a cold, a sore throat is my first symptom…I rarely get one without it turning into a week-long snot-fest.
