Again, why cover it? A truck cover over “something” seems uglier to me than a plane. And anyway, it’s not like a car in a driveway is any prettier than a plane…
Neighbors should be concerned as it goes to mental health, It is irrational to keep such a aircraft on a driveway in suburban LI. It’s not the fine, or neighbors complaining but the mental health of this guy which is the issue.
Yes, a small airplane can potentially lead to injuries, both because there are many small pointed/jabby bits on one, or if someone manages to start it up. The latter problem can, as already discussed, pretty much be eliminated by removing the spark plugs. Kids, however, could still climb on it, fall off of it, hurt themselves running into it, and so forth.
Of course, kids could hurt themselves climbing around on someone’s car or van, too.
If it were my plane, I’d be equally worried about kids playing around the plane and causing some damage to it. Bent pitot tube? Broken antenna? Kids getting into the engine compartment and fucking around, just for fun?
Or tree or sofa or kitchen or bedpost or playground equipment or fence or bathroom or… See post#73
As far as kids go, I would be more worried about people leaving the windows down in their car. Why, a kid could get in there, impale themselves on the shifter, start it up, knock it out of gear, find a phone and call 1-900 numbers, fall off the roof, drink gas, get battery acid in their eyes, close their fingers in the door, leave french fries under the seat, get their toes caught in the seat slider, change the radio stations, the list goes on and on. A Cessna with a locked cabin is no fun.
You’re assuming a Cessna that size HAS a lock - they don’t always.
And it’s a heck of a lot easier to get into the engine compartment of an airplane like that than into the one on a typical car.
I don’t think the risk of kids hurting themselves on it are high, but they are not zero.
A child get hurt on your property.
No matter the security precautions you will be sued.
