…Mr. Coca Cola Company!!
A friend of mine recently pointed out to me that Dasani water has salt listed in the ingrediants (along with magnesium sulfate and potassium chloride) which, as footnoted, adds a negligible amount of sodium.
As my friend claims, it would seem that this might be an attempt to keep Dasani drinkers thirsty in order to sell more water.
Yet isn’t also true that we actually need salt to help our bodies absorb the water? I’ve always been told on extremely hot days to eat salty snacks to prevent dehydration. Could the salt be there for this purpose?
Unlike natural spring waters, Dasani is pure de-ionized water from Coca-Cola’s soft drink plant in Atlanta. It needs added salts so that it will taste natural, and not distilled.
The salt has been there in the ingredients since the beginning. And you noticed that the amount of sodium is low enough that the government allows them to call it “negligible”. Most other drinks have an actual number there, i.e., more than a dietarily negligible amount of salt. So I really doubt that it’s enough to increase thirst!
