Why does America drive on the right and England on the left? Does it come from the days of horses and carriages and the way they passed each other? Why doesn’t everywhere in the world drive on the same side of the road?
I can understand why say, Australia, drives on the left-because it used to belong to the British commonwealth, but why does Japan, for example, also drive on the left?
And when did conventions to pass on one side and not another begin? Does it go right back to the days of the Romans? Because surely at one point it must have been random and people went all over the place on roads?
