How did Daniel Snyder get rich?

My question is how did the Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder make his fortune? Did he inherit it, or did he earn it himself? He is very young for a bilionare, and if he made his money on his own it is all the more impressive. On the other hand, if he just had it given to him I’m not impressed at all.

By charging money to watch the Redskins practice.

I believe he’s a telecom jillionaire. His company, Snyder Communications, is headquartered less than a mile from my apartment in Rockville, Md. You’d never know by looking at the building that he’s the “Snyder” in the company name. Very unassuming.

He’s pretty much self made re wealth, super intense re getting what he wants and (by reputation) one bad mofo if you cross him. He is apparently putting more than a few lawyer’s kids through college at any given time with the lawsuits he generates.
The Washington Post had a huge article on him re background etc etc down to the kind of belts he liked to wear and how he wooed his wife (pretty much stalked her) when he first took over the Skins. A visit to the Post web site and 2-3 dollars will call it up for you to satisfy your curiosity.

Snyder borrowed about 80% of the $750-800 million he paid for the Redskins. The last I heard (about a year ago), the $49 million in annual operating income was less than the annual debt payments of $55 million. In other words, he was losing money on the Redskins.

I did not see his name on the list of the 400 riches people in America, 1999 from Forbes magazine. The list goes down to a paltry $625 million.
