Dan Snyder puts Washington Commanders up for sale

As a lifelong fan of the franchise, he is no doubt the worst owner in the NFL, if not pro sports. It’s been hard cheering for a franchise that continually fails on the field because of the idiocy and cackhandedness of an owner who allowed sexual harassment, racism, and general incompetence in the front office to dominate during his reign.

Good fuckin’ riddance. The sooner it happens the better. Who’s the likely next owner… Jeff Bezos?

I’ll buy that for $1…

Brian

And I just learned a new word.

adjective. If you describe someone as cack-handed, you mean that they handle things in an awkward or clumsy way.

Of course he got in the ultimate parting shot by changing to a shitty team name before selling.

Were I a potential buyer, I’d be asking the NFL if I could immediately change the name after buying the team.

I kind of agree. I have taken to calling them the Commodes. I actually liked “Football Team,” and some of the other names circulating, like Redwolves and Redtails, were interesting.

To paraphrase the Joker, “this team needs an enema.”

I loved both of those names.

The problem was some versions were written out as RedWolves or RedTails, inserting a capital letter in the middle of a single word. As long as they don’t go with the middle of the word capital letter I’d be ok with either name.

As a Cowboys fan, I would like Jerry Jones to buy the team, then operate them as nothing but a “farm” to build the Cowboys with. Have the Commanders trade ten 1st-round picks to Dallas in return for nothing, etc.

The NFL bylaws prevents any owner from having a stake in more than one team.

Of course the only reason the NFL is forcing him out is because he has been stealing their money. They don’t really care about the other stuff.

In completely unrelated news:

My officemate is a Washington fan. I often ask him how the “Commies” or “C-Men” are doing.

I have been a fan of this team since around 1971, and even now still go with my friend - who has been a fan longer than I have - to a game once a year. And never in my long years of sports fandom have I hated an owner anywhere nearly as much as this one.

The sooner he fucking sells it, the better. Of course, because he’s Dan Snyder, he’ll probably end up selling it to some Saudi sheik sportswashing his money, or some other equally odious owner. But whatever. I’m going to hope for something better than Dan Snyder, and that’s really a low bar.

And yes, they should’ve kept the last name. I actually liked Football Team.

The team is reportedly being bought by Gary Jones, who assured reporters that he is totally not Jerry Jones wearing a fake handlebar mustache.

Also not buying the team, yrreJ senoJ

Entertainer and media entrepeneur Byron Allen is interested in the buying the team:

He tried to buy the Denver Broncos a few years ago, but was outbid.

I’m a fan of the team and I’ve grown to like the name Commanders.

Especially if you pronounce it “Commandos.”

Never go commando when playing football!

I stopped watching football ~2013 because CTE. But I’ll say that, as a former longtime Redskins fan, Dan Snyder’s mismanagement of the team made it so much easier to leave football fandom behind. It would have been much harder if the team had actually been a decent, well-run team. So in a bassackward sort of way, thanks, Danny.

And while leaving the ‘Redskins’ moniker behind was long overdue, ‘Commanders’ is a lousy name for a sports team in general, because there are going to be many times when you don’t command much at all, and the name’s really gonna be stupid at those times.

District of Columbia Attorney General Karl Racine announced a consumer protection Civil lawsuit, naming the Commanders, the NFL, Smyder and Goodell. The crux of this part is that they conspired to deceive DC residents by way of secretly giving Snyder a veto on the league’s “investigation” into the various misdeeds of him and the team.

Further actions could still be taken regarding financial malfeasance and other problems within the team organization. The sexualization of cheerleaders is especially bad. They made promo videos using footage taken without their knowledge while not in uniform. That’s not to mention the time cheerleaders were flown out of the country, had their passports taken and forced to pose in nothing but body paint, giving access to those photo shoots to paying bigwigs, and made to go on dates with the same.

Crikey. That’s human trafficking.
