the Ancient Egyptian religion - Wikipedia article is very heavy on the bird’s eye view of elite religion - the big temples, the priests, the tombs and similar. It also mentions the sale of funerary related paraphernalia to Osiris-wannabe commoners at a later period.
But what do we know of the day-to-day religion of the commoners? Did they attend some sort of local village shrines on a regular basis? Did they pray to some standard deity or else to a personally selected favorite deity for help with their problems? Did they ever actually visit those huge temples that everybody likes to talk about? Was there a problem of “heresies” and “cults” spreading, unnerving the priestly and political authorities?
