How did Seth MacFarlane do as Oscar host?

Oooh, was anyone else extremely disappointed in the presenting of Paul Rudd and Melissa McCarthy? I really like them both, but by far, that was the most flat, horrible, cringe-inducing moment of the evening. Yikes.

It was very bad.

A lot of the presenters were bad - the Avengers cast stumbling over each other’s lines for example. But that wasn’t MacFarlane’s fault.

It was the only point where I laughed out loud.

Can someone explain the Sound of Music joke? I fear I missed something.

You missed the joke at the Oscars last night, you missed Family Guy’s take on it or you missed the reference entirely as you haven’t seen the movie Sound of Music?

I missed pity last night,.

Alrighty then.

It’s again with the deliberate self-deprecation, but on Family Guy he only aspires to hang out with Frank Sinatra Junior.

I had no idea who Seth MacFarlane was before last night–aside from just having heard/seen the name before once or twice–so I had nothing to previously compare his type of humor or behavior to (actually, I still don’t know who he is, aside from knowing he was last night’s Oscar host).
That being said, if his point was to entertain me, it worked. I was entertained, so I thought he did an okay job. Not bad, but not entirely amazing, either. Pretty much like all the other Oscar hosts (IMO).

He has said that he would never do it again.

Did he say why?

Not even in the Peter Lawford slot? :frowning:

Here’s a Christian Science Monitor article quoting his tweeted response to a fan asking if he’d do it again, “No way. Lotta fun to have done it, though.” The article doesn’t give a reason, but my guess is that it’s a thankless job. Either he offends people or he bores them.

He started out as a writer/storyboard artist for Hanna-Barbara where he worked on several series including** Johnny Bravo** and Dexter’s Laboratory, and then later created** Family Guy**, American Dad, & The Cleveland Show (all of which he does multiple voices on, including Peter Griffin, Stewie, and Brian on FG). He’s won a couple of Emmy’s for his work with FG.

He also wrote and directed last year’s Mark Wahlberg & his Teddy Bear comedy “Ted” which also got MacFarlane an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song.

This year he hosted the Oscars…which I think should bring you up to speed.

Is it just me, or did it look like Renee “Squinty” Zellwegger and Reece “Glass-Cutter” Witherspoon went out of their way to confirm the cruel stereotypes MacFarlane created for them on Family Guy?

Haha, no doubt. What was up with Renee not being able to read any of the envelopes? She was having a tough time seeing through that squint of her’s.

In “Entertainment Weekly” he said that it just takes up too much time.

+1
Where is the like button?

I grimaced. It’s ok to do a “deliberately off mike” gag for a few seconds, but that one went on and on and on. And they both have fairly decent comic timing.

Powell Rood=Paul Rudd. Some guy at the Indie Awards kept calling him that. Who was it???
