Seth McFarlane to Host Oscars

Seth MacFarlane is hosting this year.

Yuck. I don’t like him - he’s just too quirky and full of himself.

I see this as attempt to pander to young people. They should get off my lawn!

He probably wouldn’t have been my choice, but I like the idea better than exhuming Billy Crystal’s corpse for another hosting gig.

I think it is a good pick, really. They need a decent host and I think he can do the job.

I don’t think he’s funny at all, but he’ll still be better than Billy Crystal.

I like MacFarlane’s work and I like him when he’s talking about his work.

But as a presenter? I have my doubts. He has no background that would be helpful to hosting. MacFarlane’s job has always been to present his own work. A host is supposed to make other people look entertaining.

Well, he can sing. That’s one thing. But I’m worried he’ll just resort to funny voices and puerile sex jokes. That’s one thing for Family Guy, but this is the Oscars. Can he tell the difference?

Bring back Johnny Carson.

There have been a few hosts that have pissed off the actors by being too snarky and were not asked back. So they go with Seth McFarlane? I hope he burns the place down. Metaphorically.

I would much rather have seen Jimmy Fallon chosen as host

During the clips of nominated films, will he shout at the screen in a mock Scottish accent: “Yer not usin’ yer brain! Yer not usin’ yer brain!”.

That would be funny, but just once.

Except that, as it’s Seth MacFarlane, he’d have to do it seventeen times.

I don’t care for his style of humor very much. The Oscar telecast isn’t must-see TV for me anyway, but this is one less reason to watch.

He’ll do fine… up until the moment he gets attacked by a giant chicken.

Yeah, he’s a smart guy. I’m pretty sure he’ll know that he’s on a stage and not in a recording studio.

Give the guy some credit, people. He’s going to be awesome.

If that’s not possible (and it seems rather unlikely at this point), how about Craig Ferguson?

A reason to watch the Oscars!

Weren’t James Franco and Ann Hathaway chosen to host a few years ago in order to appeal to young hip viewers? I don’t remember that working super well.

He’ll be good. I’ve seen him host roasts before.

He just hosted the season opener of SNL. Watch the monologue on Hulu. He’s perfectly acceptable and a surprisingly safe choice.

Naysayers gonna naysay.

He’s made damn sure we’re all well-aware of that.
