Shouldn’t the Oscars be rolling out the real, classic Hollywood variety show talent, not “fresh-faced newcomers” who I am sure have some sort of “project” being released around that time.
I don’t have an opinion on Anne Hatheway but I want James Franco to be in all the things, and I’ll look forward to seeing him. Why shouldn’t he host? He’s handsome, charming, charismatic, funny, handsome, and did I mention he’s beautiful? Because he is.
I’ve been hearing he’s a lock for a nod, and has a good chance of winning, though Jeff Bridges in *True Grit *and Colin Firth in *The King’s Speech *are right there with him at the top of the actor category.
He’s a lock. Two-time winner Fredric March co-hosted in 1954; he could have been a candidate for Best Supporting Actor for The Bridges at Toko-Ri, but was not nominated.
David Niven co-hosted in 1958; he might have been a candidate for The Moon is Blue, and he won the following year for Separate Tables. Michael Caine co-hosted in 1973 when he was a Best Actor nominee for Sleuth. Walter Matthau co-hosted in 1976 when he was a Best Actor nominee for The Sunshine Boys.
They seem kind of… dull. I mean, they’re both good actors, but they’re not legendary or anything. Neither are known as the song-and-dance type (although Hathaway did a good job in that skit with Hugh Jackman at the Oscars a while back, which I guess is why she got the nod this time).
I’d rather see Jackman again, or Steve Martin or even Billy Crystal! Heck bring back Jon Stewart. At least those guys are interesting. If you want younger faces, get some comedians (Jimmy Kimmel? Sarah Silverman?) who are used to live audiences, not movie celebrities.
Not if he has access to a branding iron (that’s a Harold and Kumar reference for those of you not thinking of NPH that way - he needs to “get his fuck on,” you see ;))
