Is that better or worse than being told your whole life that you will be spending an eternity in Hell?
That’s not a very good example, that was a pretty long thread and it was almost nothing but page up and page down of people calling the OP an idiot. Atheists and religious alike. Myself excluded of course.
e: Oh and the OP wasn’t serious and neither were the people who backed him, and it wasn’t particularly subtle either.
Says who? You? You’re going to tell me if I’m offended or not and you’re going to make the call that your level of offense is soooooooo great that mine* is naught but a pimple?
Well, hey, if you say so. It’s great that we have you here to tell us when we’re offended and how it compares to your offense. I’d hate for there to be any question about it.
*Not really “mine” since I tend to roll my eyes and dismiss most of that nonsense but then again I keep posting here whereas it seems many others do not.
Yeah well, he probably didn’t bother to read that one either…
I was unaware there was going to be a quiz. I am going to go out on a limb here and say that both telling religious people that they should be executed and telling atheists that they are going to spend eternity in Hell are to be discouraged.
Except for the very large number of people who thought supportively joking about genocide was a good idea, and the vocal number that really thought the OP was on the right track. Morally reprehensible much?
Czarcasm: That you were once mistreated does not justify you mistreating others. Grow up. Even this board should have some standards.
I read that one quite thoroughly.
Where is the thread about executing religious people?
Why it’s in General Questions of course, where else would it be?
Can you get that out to the general public? I can count on one penis the number of times I’ve heard the notion that all religious people should be executed, but it would take the Mormon Tabernacle Choir to come up with enough penii to count the number of times I’ve been told I’m going to a place I don’t believe in because I don’t adhere to the same myths that others do.
One thing I find funny is when a Christian tells an atheist “when we die, we’ll find out who is right” which of course is true, but it’s still funny.
Here you go:
Yeah, but only their side gets to crow if it wins.
Were you talking to me?
Can you point to examples on this board of theists being condescending, rude and disrespectful to atheists?
As a theist I have no problems with atheists and have participated in a few GD threads. But I try to be respectful and appreciate respect from others as well, even if they don’t share my belief. Constantly referring to God as a sky pixie or Invisible Pink Unicorn is just childishness and not likely to get a poster taken seriously.
Have you checked out the magical thinking thread yet? Saying something doesn’t make it so.
Bookmarked.
Link?
I’m simply calling it like I see it. I feel I have an obligation to tell you the truth. I can’t let your tender feelings dictate the terms of the debate.
I think you’re confusing us with a different board. What you’re describing is how some theists behave, but not atheists. The “personal experience” thing is a theist specialty. What the hell personal experience or anecdotal evidence has an atheist ever tried to provide? What cites do they ignore? What “beliefs” are you referring to? What “actual scientists and skeptics” do you know who think there are cites and evidence for sky gods? What the hell are you talking about?
I’m not talking about atheism or theism, I’m talking about the general claim that the Straight Dope is some kind of paragon of skepticism and rationality.
Why are you such an angry person? It makes me never want to discuss anything with you.
