How did you chose your username?

I considered my chipper, sunny disposition, my pollyanna outlook on life’s problems, and my ability to charm all with whom I come into contact…

And came up with my name.

Truly, though, I am nowhere near as Cranky as I used to be. The name hardly fits anymore. My former roommate is 28-going-on-70 and he ought to legally take my moniker. I love his butt off.

I chose my name as a purposefully obscure literary reference. A man named August Derleth collaborated with H.P. Lovecraft on some of his works. I actually read the bylines of the stories in my Lovecraft anthologies and found that beautifully obscure and odd name. I mainly like how it feels when I pronounce it. As a plus, it’s so obscure nobody’s heard of it. Therefore, nobody gets biased against me because of my username. I want people to be biased against me because of my posts.

It’s my porn name. You know: first name is the name of a favorite childhood pet, and last name is the street you grew up on. It just so happens that I like it better than my real name.

Now, where are those fluffers?

Name Translations…some are obvious and some are just plain weird

What does your name mean?

I’ve been a huge fan of Andrew Lloyd Webber
musicals for decades. When his last one had
a song called “Annie Christmas” in it, I
almost fell off my chair. My last name is
Anne, and my B-day is December 25th. What a
real stalker would have done with this.

I think that my username is self-explanatory.

You’re really posting on the wrong MB if you wanted people who did not recognize the source of your name. (We have a number of graduates of Miskatonic University.)

I spend a great deal of time and even more money on the sport of archery and bowhunting so I decided on Archer.

It’s really Lucifer, but I didn’t want to step on Satan’s toes (hooves?), so I shortened it.

Actually, it’s really short for Lucie Furrbottom, a Ren faire character I used in the past (a member of a large, seriously in-bred family from the village of Lesser Stoat-in-the-Wold, just across the valley from Upper Dorking-in-the-Glen)

I just like to put my 2sense in. Often twice.
peace

My name was a gift from a chat friend - a variation on fairy godmother (duh) shortened because the chat forum we used was limited to 12 letters per user name. So it’s my IM name and my hotmail name and my icuii name…

Q. How many names did you try that turned out to be already taken?

A. NONE! BWA HA HA HAAAA!

I don’t mind repeating myself. It’s basically a play on my real name STEPHEN but it’s pronounced STEFFIN, not Steven. A lot of people called me Stovetop Stuffin when I was a kid, so I sort of adopted it. The B represents my last name.

Says you…Harumph…

Corrado is a linguistic descendant of either “Corradius” or “Conradius”, an old Roman name meaning “wise advisor” or “bold”. As Latin slowly corrupted into Italina, Corradius become Corrado (approximate equivalent in Germanic languages is “Konrad”; it’s much more common as a first name- see the Sopranos or Prizzi’s Honor for examples. As a further side note, even though it’s a first name, no member of my family was saddled with the unfortunate moniker Corrado Corrado as far as I can tell, although the uncle of a friend of mine was Giacomo diGiacomo).

My grandfather- Giovanni- was born in the town of Corrado, Italy (just north of Compo de Baso, in Abruzzi). We’re still not sure if the inhabitants were named after the town or vice-versa; half of the people in town have the last name “Corrado”. As Corrado was a popular first name, it’s quite possible that either the town was named after a famous resident named Corrado (or in honor of Emperor Corrado of the Holy Roman Empire), and later people took their name from the town; or that a family took the name Corrado from its patriarch (akin to “Johnson”) and eventually the town got the name Corrado because all of the Corrados lived there.

My father, John M. Corrado Sr., was named, in great Catholic tradition, after the saint of the day he was born upon- specifically, St. John the Baptist. (It’s occasionally fun to speculate about what would happen had he been born on St. Ladislaus’ Day, but that’s fuel for another thread.) So even though my father shared the same name as my grandfather (in essence, that is; “Giovanni” was changed to “John” when my grandfather immigrated) he wasn’t specifically named after my grandfather. I, however, was named after my father.

Thus, my username.
(Short answer: It’s my real name. Big surprise.)

I just chose mine cause I like to entertain people, and I think one of the greatest feelings in the world is making somebody laugh their ass off. Also, my real name didn’t fit. Not alot you can do with “Walt.”

HerMajesty = Beatles song that I like a lot

Lorna = My name

I picked a female character from my favorite author… she had a personality anyone could love!

Heh. Some of us have tenure there. Derleth seems like a very normal name to me, and one of my best friends is named August.

On topic (one more time)–My name references my internally contradictory personality. If I were a movie, I probably wouldn’t watch myself…

Roadrunner says, “Meep, meep!” This has caused severe emotional trauma all throughout my twisted life and has really messed up my head.
