How did you get your username?

years ago when i had webtv i needed to use an email for certain sites i usually go to yahoo and get an email to use as i wont get spammed on my regular account…well i thought it up one day and liked it and kept it ever since

Originally, I was ssskuggiii, an alteration on the Icelandic word for “shadow.” After posting here for a certain amount of time, a lot of changes occurred in my life all at once, and I requested my username be changed to Mirrored Indigo Shadows. There was still a shadow reference, but it also incorporated the affinity for the colour indigo. Mirrored I just threw on at the thought that it fit… I realized soon afterward this makes me sound like an excerpt from some bad angsty goth poetry. Oh well.
If I were to change my username again (I don’t know if I should bother), I’d change it to Nashiitashii, which is my LiveJournal username. Might as well have everything match up for the first time in a few years…

At first I used to use my real name for everything, which is a common name in the Middle East since it’s the mother of Jesus. I used to get tons of messages from Arabic people whose english skills were often horrible or would just send me messages in Arabic. It annoyed me so much that I figured I should change my screen name.

Everything I thought of was always taken up. I don’t like having numbers after my name either. Finally I decided that two of my cousins’ names were nice and I thought they sounded great together. Unfortunately I forgot to take into account that most people probably don’t know how to pronounce it correctly. Most people say it as ShAdy Rocks Ann. It’s actually Shaaah dee Roex ahn.

Uh, I think “cool” user names are kinda dorky. Except Qadgop, of course, which is REALLY cool. Or maybe I just couldn’t think of anything cool.

Did Philip Jose Farmer, in his series of stories written by fictional authors, ever use Sybly as a pen name?

Mine is from three letters of my first name in the order they appear and repeated.

Once upon a time, back when I was a wee little Teegling, I got my very first email address. It was a magical thing back in those days. Instant magic communication. Until my first Porn Spam anyways. Then it was a different kind of magic

About 5 years ago, my first email account was Troubled Guy. When i went chatting on ICQ and IRC, this was my nickname. Eventually people started calling me T guy. Then it became T.G. Since TG was too short as a nick, I lengthened the syllables it TeeGee. After a while I got tired of spelling it that way, and viola! Inspiration strikes and Teegus is born!

Been that way ever since. A vaguely unique username. Except someone else at Hotmail has taken it :frowning:

Any questions? This will be on the test. Class Dismissed.

Ok, my name. Not much to tell. Back in High School, Jr year to be exact, I was sitting at the lunch table w/my friends. There was one particular friend who was getting on my nerves at the moment. Anyway, she kept annoying me until I finally turned to her and shouted, “LEAVE ME ALONE YOU EVIL WOMAN OF SCORN!”
and so the name was born. I have no problems registering at places with it. I’ve also had it for seven years.

I don’t post much either. I suppose that’s self-evident. This user name is one I’ve had for a couple of years, since I first played EverQuest. I used to enjoy cold war spy fiction, and Idlewild was the name that was commonly used for what’s now JFK airport. I thought it was so pretty that I took it for the name of one of my EverQuest characters. It seemed to fit me rather nicely so I kept it.

I chose to be EddyTeddyFreddy in honor of Eddy, Teddy and Freddy, my three orange tiger boycats.

I should point out, however, that I am neither orange, nor a tiger, nor a boy.

I went to film school.

I am also a geek.

This was one of my first handles online long, long ago.

I considered using my very first ‘username’ - PaxtonRat.

I chose my name because it is in your best interest to Dread Me.

I dropped way too much acid in my younger days. Couldn’t get enough of the stuff. Mmmm, striknine shivers…

I’ve been using this alias going on 12 years.

Torie is my real name, short for Victoria Zoe.

I took a friend to a Sanrio store, and I noticed that one of the characters did not seem happy, in fact in a lot of the products he was beating on the other Sanrio characters. He was black and had mean eyes. I liked that guy.

Later I was trying to choose a username for another board, and I remembered that guy. I did a few internet searches and found out his name. That is how I came to be Badts Maru.

Um, Badtz, that is.

The story behind Flamsterette_X.

Oh, and I’ve had this name for more than 13 years. It’s a very unique name, and I’ve had no problems using it to register at online communities.

Heck, I own the Google search results for “Flamsterette_X” and “Flamsterette.” Not sure if that’s such a good thing in some cases, but there you have it.

I invented my Ice Wolf (although there are tons of such frosty lupines out there on th’ Net). I created the character who was known as Ice Wolf, and the warrior crew who are Ice Wolves, in a piece of weird stuff I’ve written and dreamed about since 1979.

I was surprised no one else had it, back in Jan '01. It went through with no probs. Glad I was able to have it for the G’Dope message board, too (after a slight panic).

Back when I signed up for my first e-mail account, I sat stumped in front of the computer as many variations of my name got bounced as “already taken”. I finally said forget the name stuff, I’ll go with:

  1. My job (pilot)
  2. What airplane I fly (C-141) at the time

Thus pilot141 was born. I’ve flown several airplanes since then, but have kept the name. And even though I think the username means something special, it’s always open whenever I register somewhere…

Well, when I explain this I normally post a link to the C-141 since most people don’t know what in the world it is.

I forgot, so here is a picture of a C-141. It’s a large picture, so you’ll probably have to scroll up/down, but it does show the 141 fairly well.

The reason I keep the username is because that airplane took me to every continent except Antarctica. It is almost completely retired from the Air Force, but it will always hold a special place in my heart.

Go Starlifter!!!

<Slinks out as the Geek patrol approaches>

My nickname at school was Gerome, as Gerard was too hard to pronounce.

Do I win the prize for lamest story?
