If you can’t take anti-histamines you may want to try Outright Allergy Relief from Cats. (Link to the product on Petco’s website: http://tinyurl.com/t4xwj) I use this when my mom comes to visit. She is terribly allergic to cats and we have three. It works very well. The only downside is that you will have to apply it weekly and if the cat doesn’t like it, it could turn into a bad experience for both of you. Mine all put up with it fine. (I usually start using it about a month before my mom arrives.)
I suggest having your friend give you as many of the cat’s possessions as she can. The toys/bedding/scratching post will already smell like the cat which should make the cat more comfortable.
Or use a can of compressed air. One of my cats doesn’t mind the water (she’ll just look at me with a big look on her face), but the air, which sounds hissy, will make her scatter. Plus canned air doesn’t get stuff wet (in case you miss the cat - or even if you do. A wet cat in your lap is a mess).
It might be an idea to put a cat flap in the door of say the spare bedroom.
I suppose you could just hook it open wide enough to allow feline ingress but obstruct the dog.
I had a nasty experience introducing a known cat, mine used to be best of friends with him, yet when he turned up after an absence of 3 months my cat went bananas.
Well, I’ve just spent a few hours with the feline in question and he came and curled right up on me, so at least he likes me ok. Additonally, my doggie was VERY interested in sniffing my pants when I got home.
might want to put the litter box in a place where the dog can’t get to it. my vet says some dogs like to snack on the “treats”/“cat cookies” in the litter box!
:smack: :smack: :smack: :smack: :smack: :smack: :smack: :smack: That was *supposed to read, “Where you and pussy are concerned, I’d say that was a given.” Now, if you’ll pardon me, I’m going to slink off and quietly die from embarassment for somehow managing to get tongue tied on the intarwebs.
