Today I was at the bus stop waiting for my bus to go home. It was nighttime and the temperature was about freezing. There was some wind chill that I could feel. Out of one bus came a girl wearing a mini-skirt! In the middle of winter! I could see that she didn’t have any stockings on. This is not the first time, too.
How do girls do it? How do they stand to go bare-legged in sub-zero temperatures? Doesn’t it get, ahem, a bit airy under there from the cold winter air? Don’t your legs feel like Popsicles?
Yes, your legs and “under there” are freezing in this weather, and would be even with stockings. Some girls think it’s cool to suffer for fashion. I think they’re crazy.
Never been to a Catholic High School in Canada, eh?
Girls do it all the time. How? Haven’t you figured it out yet man?! Girls are stronger than boys!
Today, with windchill it was around -30 C here today. On my way to work this morning I saw a girl cross the street wearing a short skirt (though she did have some sort of seemingly thick stockings on). Regardless, she was walking onto campus and had at least another 5-10 minutes to go before she had any chance of being indoors.
If ever I have seen a thread that should just be deleted, it’s this one. Who cares how or why, just be grateful. Don’t point out the discomfort. In fact maybe what keeps them warm is the warm glow of satisfaction they feel in having improved the day of so many men.
We were big whores in high school (clothing-wise, thankyouverymuch). Granted, I’m from Bakersfield, so “freezing cold” here is like, maybe 30. . . maybe 4 days in December. That said, we would still wear flip flops, skirts, etc.
How’d we do it? Well, I don’t remember being particularly cold. Even now when I wear flip flops throughout the winter, I just don’t get all that cold. My legs have never really gotten freezing cold. So long as my torso and arms are covered nicely, I’m usually ok.
Maybe all the slutty skirts conditioned me appropriately?
First of all, keeping the extremities warm isn’t nearly as important as the torso. I presume they were all wearing good winter coats?
Second, some petroleum jelly or the like rubbed on the legs can help a fair bit, without spoiling the view. I don’t know if they do this, but they might.
Third, they probably are somewhat uncomfortable. Their choice.
Ditto the guys I see coming to school in parkas and shorts. It’s below freezing outside, and these guys are in shorts! All in the name of fashion, I guess.
The girl I saw did have a good winter coat on. However, if I dressed the same way she does, I would still be shivering and getting goose bumps from all the exposed skin. It also seems like a good way to get dry skin. If I were her, I would bring a pair of pants just in case the temperature really drops and she is left outside waiting for a bus.
It doesn’t get very cold here in San Diego, but there are many nights when I’m wearing a sweater and a coat over that and I see a 20-ish woman or younger in a teensy weensy tank top and…

wait for it…

a SCARF!!! A big ol’ scarf wound round n’ round, because if your neck’s warm, you’re toasty all over!
That said, it was 85 degrees here today. I was about ready to bust out MY miniskirt (okay, my legs could cause blindness at the moment, but still.)
The misery of winters was one reason (among many) that I hated going to a Christian school. We weren’t allowed to wear “tights” (thick stockings) because they might be mistaken for skin-tight pants beneath our skirts and you know, wearing pants is just wrong. Nylons don’t afford much protection from wind chill.
We weren’t allowed to wear “althletic shoes”, so I had about five years experince of skidding around on the snow and ice in dress shoes.
