How do I become a TV evangelist?

Where do these people come from? Most of these TV evangelists canNOT be real ministers. They look too sleazy. My guess is that most of them were former car salesman looking to make a buck off of gullible senior citizens.

Anyway, does anyone know where I need to go to set up my own TV ministry? Do I get a TV production company to back me up? Or do I have to start with a real church, and build my leads that way? How much money do I need to raise to get on TV first?

It seems pretty easy. Just get on the tube and beg people for money for one hour a week, promising them miracles from God if they do so.

If anyone has any background on how this racket works, and how I would go about setting up my own TV ministry, I would appreciate it. I could use the extra money.

Point #1: Many TV ministries are suckering elderly people out of money, so if you love you granny and grampa, find another line of work.
Point #2: If you live in the right kind of city, you can get a cable-access show for about nothing, and broadcast wahtever you want (within legal limits and community standards)
Point #3: I’ve been wanting for years to found my own religion, where my worshipers will fetch me beers and cater to my whims and idolize me, as their leader. Unfortunately, this is often referred to in the media as a “cult.” I’ll deal with the label – wanna partner?

Just remember, if you become a teletubbyvangelist, the atheist communistic satan-loving heathens will make fun of you. Go here and look for “Doin’ God’s Will” to see the kind of muddled thinking you’ll run up against.

Margarita, you are on the right track. Our cable station runs a few TV evangelists, all locals with services held at local high schools or store fronts. Seems to be a growth industry.

Have you considered going public, theuglytruth? You won’t even have to change your sig but you should be married.

Those TV evangelists are indeed real ministers. This may be because some congregations like to have a con man in the pulpit, but I don’t know of any cases where someone became a TV evangelist without first being a minister. If you haven’t got what it takes to persuade a real-life congregation to give you money, you haven’t got what it takes to persuade a TV audience to do it either.
