It doesn’t happen to everyone. It happened to my work computer when I updated from Windows 10 Pro 1909 to 2004 in May 2020. I think I also wasn’t able to save passwords and there were other issues with certificates and passwords. I had to roll back to 1909 and had to redo all my accounts.
I use Windows 10 Pro on my home system, too, but I did not run into problems doing the same update on it.
This issue was exactly what I thought of when I saw passwords mentioned. But I believe that problem was with Windows’ own password/credential storage system, which should be separate from the one used by Chrome.
Honestly, to me it’s starting to sound like that there is something wrong with @Little_Nemo’s system, and the updates just keep tripping it. Like maybe the best thing to do would be to do a repair install of Windows 10.
However, before that, I definitely recommend seeing if he can fix the problem with Chrome. I’ll make a separate post on that.
Huh. I was going to go through the troubleshooting steps all of it, but everything I was going to tell you to do is in the article that @Railer13 posted:
Just step through them one by one. If you get to the last step, and it helps, there’s a trick that will copy over all the stuff from your old profile to the new one, and I can show you that.
And if “Fix 6” finds any problems, you should probably do a full malware scan. Heck, it wouldn’t hurt even if it doesn’t.
I addressed this problem the way I usually address computer problems; I asked a friend who knows computers better than I do for help. They got the password manager working again.
I did not intend my previous post to be seen as unfriendly or unwelcoming to advice. My intent was to make a self-deprecating joke about my poor computer skills.
