I’m trying to create .wav file for a real audio/ media streaming audio internet show, but my Microsoft voice recorder will only record 60 second clips. Is there a program on Windows 98 that will allow me to create a longer .wav file?
I have Microsoft Netshow and On-demand producer.
My one friend sez .wav files are obsolete, I need to create a .mdi or mp3 file that people can download.
HUH? Is there anyone out there that can tell me what I have to do . . in English?
Using the recorder that comes with Windows 98 will do the trick, but you have to trick it into recording longer. You have to prepare by opening a new file, then record 60 seconds of silence. Save this as silence.wav or whatever you want. Now, any time you need 60 more seconds of time, you can go to Edit/Insert File and insert the silence.wav file. You can do this as many times as needed to get a longer recording time. Just record over the inserted silence as needed.
It is true that there may be better formats for your audio files, but it depends on their use, too. the sound recorder in Win 98 also has the ability to save a file as in MP3 format. the problem is that it saves it as a .WAV file, but you can change the extension to MP3 after the fact.
Try this:
- Open a WAV file,
- Go to File/Save As
at the bottom of the Save As dialog, there is a “Change” button. Click it.
- Now Choose MPEG Layer 3 as the format and try varying levels of quality.
You will find that the files you save take up much less space, and depending on the level of quality you choose, you can get very nice sound, too.
