How do I dispose of sharp glass?

Last Saturday, I had an accident with a screen door window that shattered and caused me to go to the ER and get 12 stitches in the palm of my left hand. I haven’t had a chance to clean up the glass yet. There are numerous large and small sharp glass pieces and I just realized I have no idea of how to properly dispose of them. I don’t want to just throw them in the garbage since the sanitation worker(s) could get hurt. I was thinking of putting a note on the garbage can saying “sharp glass”, but quite frankly am not sure if all of them can read. I know for a fact that one of them doesn’t speak any English. Is there an accepted protocol for disposing of sharp glass?

Get a box, put a plastic bag in it. Scoop the glass into it, breaking the big pieces. Tape it shut and toss it in the trash can.

That’s what I’d do.

Use a box, or can or jug, anything that will prevent the glass from escaping. Cat litter jugs are great for this, I’ve found (since the bozos like to knock glasses into the sink or onto the floor).

Put it in a container and seal the container. Cardboard boxes or plastic containers are good for this.

For a minute I was thinking your garbage men really are bozos if they using your sink and breaking glasses.

Yeah, I was not all that clear, was I?

You might run over the area with some masking tape or an adhesive pet hair roller to get the last of the glass slivers. If you use your broom, the glass may stick to the bristles then drop off every time you sweep.

Really, I wouldn’t worry about the garbage men - they probably encounter far more dangerous trash on a daily basis. I doubt a little broken glass will faze them.
