How do I find a book discussion group?

I checked the local Barnes & Noble stores and the local libraries with no luck.

An internet search yielded nothing.

Any tips are welcome, as are any links or info for NYC book groups.

Check the local papers especially the alt.weeklies for ads. Or place one yourself and start your own club.

I’d suggest talking to your local public library again. I don’t know what your local branch/library is, but the NYPL definitely has some adult book discussion groups at various branches. According to the calendar of events, most of 'em meet monthly. It may be that (like the public library I work at) the book clubs at the NYPL branches tend to meet less frequently in the summer. That could be why there’s only a few. So check again in the Fall. If it turns out that your local branch really doesn’t have any kind of group, talk to them about starting one. Public Libraries are all about that kind of thing.

Oops, forgot that NYC also means Brooklyn and Queens, which are separate library systems. So, here’s some more info. in case you’re closer to one of those systems:

Brooklyn:BPL Online Book Club -a national chapter-a-day service and probably not what you’re looking for

Here’s BPL’s calendar which also lists book clubs at some of the branches.

BPL also has a resource called Reading Groups Take Note which is booklists and other resources for local reading groups. There’s no online listing for area book clubs, but based on this information, I bet they’d have one, or could give you some info. There’s an email address at the bottom of the page.

Queens:
Here’s their list of
Book Clubs

Hope this helps.
