How do I find the best message boards?

Aside from the SD boards, of course!

I live in a small, isolated town in a remote part of the US. It’s been impossible (so far) to find people in my situation IRL. What I’m specifically looking for is message boards or chat groups for people 50 and over, preferably for divorced people over 50. But when I Google terms like those, I find little if anything. I can’t find anything in Yahoo Groups. I found one board for women over 50 on iVillage, but it seems to be a group of happily married women who’ve known each other for years bragging about their grandchildren, etc. Nice but not my situation. I currently belong to a private chat group on Yahoo, but everyone there is in their 30s or 40s, so their life circumstances are very different from mine. I’m sure there have GOT to be sites available somewhere for people who fit those categories. How do I find them?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have particular hobbies or interests? Most of the message boards I frequent (SDMB being a notable exception) are interest-specific. While you may not necessarily find divorced over-50 women on such boards, at least you’ll find people with whom you have a shared interest.

Too funny – I’ve just started working for an entrepreneur who is starting a website aimed at people 50 and over, which will include a message board. That’s clearly not going to help you just yet, but have you checked out www.aarp.com? There’s an active message board there, although I haven’t looked at it enough to know the specifics of the people who post on it.
