So I have been putzing with this faucet for nearly a month now. It’s a spray nozzle/ regular faucet switch-in-one deal (One of these that seems to clunk and then stop suddenly at random times. I’ve unscrewed the nozzle itself and the pipes still clunk to a stop so it isn’t an issue with the faucet or mineral deposits. And I removed the hose from the main water pipe and the water seems to come out fine through there, so the problem seems to either be with the hose or possibly the diverter? I’ve wandered through the internet and figured out how to disassemble enough of the faucet to (maybe) isolate the problem and to figure out that it MIGHT be an easy fix, but I’m still struggling with it. And the only real reason is that this faucet is remarkably stubborn to take apart.
I was planning on trying to replace the hose first, but the problem is since this faucet doesn’t have a side sprayer, all the pipes and the hose are through one hole and trying to push the hose out through the top past the pipes is pretty much impossible. Not sure how to go about getting it out without perhaps never being able to get it back in again…
This is likely a super simple problem, but any advice would be helpful.
There’s no diverter on that faucet since the water only has one way to go, so it’s not that.
When you say that you removed the hose from the main water supply, do you mean that you disconnected it under the sink? You would then have to let the water pour into a bucket to test it, if you did that, did it stop then as well?
Have you pulled the cartridge out and checked it for damage or mineral/scale/lime that could be causing problems? That’s probably where I’d start. Sometimes it’s as simple as dropping in a new one.
ETA, does it exhibit the same symptoms regardless of way the spray is set? That is, if you hit the button on top and the water comes out as a ‘spray’ does it still shut off on it’s own?
The handle moves a cartridge around that controls the flow of hot and cold water.
The the flow into a bucket was fine, but when you removed the sprayer from the end, the water still stopped. That tells me the problem is with the hose. If I were you, I’d pull the hose out and see if Home Depot or a plumbing store can sell you a replacement.
ISTM, you narrowed it down to that.
Actually, before I replaced it, I’d try cleaning it. Make sure it’s open on both ends. Maybe let the whole thing soak in vinegar overnight.
The hose is what I was leaning toward, thanks. Now I just have to hammer the bastard out. It’s stuck in there good and getting it out past the faucet pipes is a bastard…
If you unscrew it from the bottom and take the sprayer off, it should pull out one way or the other. You’ll have to remove the weight if you try to pull it up and out.
