I am Stage Managing a play that has a scene where the character eats worms. The director is insistant on the worms being eaten out of a plastic bait type fish food container (the kind that you get frozen blood worms and brine shrimp in). The problem is the actors have to eat out of it and I can’t get the fish food smell out. I have washed it several times with both soap and rubbing alcohol. I am about to boil the damn thing, is there anything else I can do to turn this into a dish someone could eat out of?
Try scrubbing it with baking soda.
Soak overnight in vinegar.
But not at the same time.
I boiled it and then scrubbed with baking soda, and the smell it lessened (it is gone from overpowering to tolerable). How long do you think it needs to soak in vinegar before there is any effect? I know you said overnight, but would 3 hours do the trick or does it have to be 8-10 hours? The reason I ask is that we were hoping to use this prop tonight, and while it wouldn’t be the end of the world if we waited till tomorrow, I like to be able to give my director the things he asks for. Also, should it be vinegar diluted with water or straight vinegar?
