I found a nice digital camera in Maui last week. There was no obvious “lost and found” to leave it at, so I kept it. There are a bunch of vacation photos on it, but no owner identification. Should I just post the photos, and if so, where?
Here’s a similar incident where the owner was found. Found Camera | Flickr
I suppose you could post the photos online and send an email to a Maui newspaper or TV station.
Check the exif info to see if there`s anything in the comment field?
Craigslist lost and found?
Throw a bunch of non-embarrassing photos up on Flickr and let us speculate!
You could try this tool . The purpose is actually to help find stolen cameras by comparing the camera’s serial number, which is stored in the exif data of its photos, to other photos on the web. But if you find out where the camera owner has been posting his or her photos it could potentially lead you to them.
Shame there weren’t a bunch of pictures of topless beauties. Then of course it would be my camera and you could send it back.
That would be my first step.
Well, that was a good first step, but- no dice. I put in the serial number and got zero hits.
I’ll probably post the photos on Flikr page, unless you folks have a better suggestion.
There’s a facebook page for lost and found cameras.
The only lost camera for Maui was May 31st, though. Could your camera have been lost that long?
There’s also this one
I doubt it.
I found it on a dirt road leading up to “The Garden of Eden,” and I’m sure it would have been squashed if it had been there for more than a few hours.
That looks like a good site - I’ll post photos there this weekend.
Call/email the manufacturer to see if it had been registered for warranty?
I thought of that yesterday - It’s a good idea, and I’ll try it and see if they ever registered.
Hello, my husband and I lost a camera in Maui in October 2010 while snorkeling. Could you please give more details? My camera was a Sony.
Sorry, but this was a Nikon. I found it at the “Garden of Eden” on the road to Hana.
I was just thinking about this camera today. I haven’t made much of an effort to find the owner, but I was thinking that it would be nice to return their photos to them.
Hopefully you can find the owner. I was pretty devastated when we lost ours. It’s nice that there are people that care.
Tip: When my teen spent her Christmas money on a digital camera, I had her take the first picture of a piece of paper with her address on it in case she lost it and a nice person found it.
You also gave her address to a thief that might steal the camera.
