How do I not get screwed over by a cellphone plan?

Sounds to me like you are getting screwed. I’d call T-mobile and try to renegociate. I have T-mobile, and I get 1500 minutes for $40/mo. My actual bill with taxes and everything has never topped $50, and is usually about $45. What kind of “extras” are you paying for. Do you really need them?

Seconded, crappy customer service, dropped calls (in manhattan!), and having my phone cloned* TWICE within 5 months made me leave.

*When a theif clones your phone, he sits by the highway with a device and picks up signals. They don’t need your actual phone to steal your phone’s identity. I kept paying my bill and kept having it turned off for ‘over balance limit’. and they couldn’t do anything (including refund my overpaid balance) until the next billing cycle, which was three weeks away. So I was out a cell phone for three weeks. Twice.
