How do I print this?

My replacement Prius does not have a cargo net. I salvaged the old one, but there are no top D-rings to attach it. Fortunately there are easy-to-follow instructions, complete with a template online. The template says to print at 300 DPI. How do I do that?

I’m trying to print it at the office, and the printer we use is an HP P2035 B&W one. There is no DPI option. I measured the ruler in the .gif image, and determined that the image needs to be printed at 53.33333% of its actual size. I tried using the slider in the Options to make the size 53%, clicked OK, and then clicked the button to print it. It still came out full-size (and doesn’t fit on the paper).

I suppose I could measure with a protractor the angle on the image that shows the template taped to the moulding, and a screw in the middle of the ‘cut-out’ area, then measure the distance on the computer screen; but it would be easier if I could just print the templates off at the correct size.

Click the properties button beside your selected printer and see if there’s an option for “Fit to paper size” or something similar if all you’re wanting to do is fit it on a single sheet.

Actually, I want to print it such that an inch as depicted on the ruler in the .gif equals an inch on my metal ruler.

I tried fitting to paper size in Preferences|Paper/Quality but, like the option I tried of stating the reduction size, it didn’t seem to do anything.

I tried using Print preview, and was able to choose 50% reduction. Weirdly, that was too big. An inch on the ruler was 1¾ inches. (By now, I really should expect Microsoft products to do weird things.) I chose 30%, and an inch on the ruler is 15/16 inch. Pretty close. I can choose a custom size, so I can just try different ones until an inch on the paper equals an inch on the metal ruler. This is the Pacific Northwest. We have plenty of trees here.

Toyota really should provide a template with the D-rings.

I just sorta breezed through the OP. Sorry about that.

I don’t have that model printer, but I have a Laserjet 9040 I can try to figure out some settings for you (and I’m using the universal printer drivers for that, so if I can get it to work, it should also work for you if you’re willing to install the universal drivers).

I’ll let you know hopefully soon.

I wouldn’t be able to install anything on this computer. Well, I’d be able to… but IT might get mad.

I opened the image in Photoshop, changed the resolution from 72 to 300, and made a PDF. If you print from Reader without any scaling set up, it will be correct. Send a PM and I can send you the file.

Oh, ok then. I have no idea if you can’t get the drivers installed.

You don’t seem to be PM-able. My email is in my profile, though. (You’ll get an automated ‘What are you, a spammer?’ reply that you can ignore.)

I was able to scale the image to 33 or 34 percent (I don’t remember which) in Print preview, and the printed ruler is only 1/32" longer per inch than a physical one. Probably close enough. The templates look a little small, though. Could just be because they’re on paper and not on the car. I’ll have to cut them out and try them.

Sorry about that, email sent.

Thanks, Dickerman!
