I know we aren’t supposed brag about who we’re ignoring, so I won’t, but being a little bit useless I can’t find how to do it.
Never mind. Found it.
For the benefit of anyone else looking for this, go to your user control panel and select Edit Ignore List, under Settings and Options.
Has someone responded to this thread? The post count is more than I see.
As much as some of you would like to, you can’t ignore moderators.
Well, not in the software, anyway. Mentally, we can’t stop you from ignoring us, though if we are acting as a moderator at the time, you do so at your own peril.
I don’t think we can ignore anyone, either. Not sure. I’ve never tried it.
You also can’t put yourself on ignore. I’m not sure why you would want to, but people have tried. All that happens is that you get an error message.
Hey – you get a cool coffee mug, you gotta expect at least some sacrifice!
I read this 30 seconds ago and I’m still trying to wrap my head around the part about putting yourself on ignore
There are occasions I would like to ignore beckdawrek
She can be annoying sometimes.
I don’t know the case referred to but …
At a memorial gathering some time back someone (name withheld even though no Doper is totally innocent) mentioned wishing they could “ignore” or hide their own posts as “unless someone replies directly to it, it would speed up my reading and heck I already know what I said”.
Even with the alcohol involved it seemed silly and much fun discussion ensued.
RL is like the Pit — we can get a little rougher as long as we know its in the spirit of fun.
Kerwadkceb, rather?
I can’t figure out WHY you’d want to "ignore’ other posters.
Yeah, I tried but found my wireless mouse so I’m back to using the scroll wheel to ignore him. I just kept seeing people talking about setting certain people on ignore and I wanted to know how.
ETA: As to why, it’s because he’s a pompous windbag. I do enough of that myself and don’t need to see it when others do it.
Alternate method for use when, say, you’ve got that poster’s post in front of you:
Click on the poster’s name, and select “View public profile” from the dropdown.
Select “User Lists” right below their name. Click on “Add to Ignore List.”
You’ll be asked to confirm that you want to do that.
thank you, I didn’t know that. also, I can use the same path to “friend” someone.
I’m good at skimming over posts, but I’ve used ignore on 2 posters, (one of whom has been banned, as it happens).
Sometimes a poster has a habit of starting their post in an interesting way, then consistently screwing up their facts. It saves time to ignore such posters with software, since my wetware has been successfully hacked.
Heh.
In the same way there are people in real life who I’d just rather not have to deal with. I do get to choose who I associate with.
