How do I watch Big Bang Theory - from the beginning?

It’s not on Netflix. Do I need to buy Hulu?

Thanks in advance.

Not on Hulu+. Netflix has it on DVD, Amazon has it pay-per-show. Not sure about iTunes.

Sometimes when programs are aired via syndication, they’re shown in episode order. So perhaps you can check the schedule to see if they’re starting from the first episode. It’s a bit of a pain but it’s free. And if you have a DVR and the station is broadcasting the episodes at a set time, you can set a season pass to record all of them.

I’m not sure where you can get it, but it’s hardly critical to watch in order.
I didn’t and saw the first few seasons out of order in syndication.

That being said, there are some relationship arcs that would work better in order. That way you’re not wondering, ok, are these two people dating in this episode or not?

Netflix offers the DVDs. Also TBS airs it mostly in order multiple times a day.

It’s not “critical” to watch in order, but the characters do develop, undergo experiences referred to later, new characters appear, etc. I think you’ll gain a little something by watching in order, but not a huge amount.

Also, the first season or so were getting their footing, I think they improved a lot over the years.

I think it’s on two stations and I wouldn’t be surprised if you could catch 5-10 episodes a day. If you set a DVR to record every single episode (with no repeats), you’d probably have close to the entire series (except maybe the last season or two) within a few months. Then it’s just matter of picking and choosing the next one on your DVR. You’d probably still have a few holes, but you’d be pretty close.

You might also check your local library, they might rent the DVDs.

Tonight (Wed.) at 10pm Eastern, TBS is starting the series over with the pilot.* They run 3 episodes a night in series order starting at 9:30. (So tonight’s 9:30 episode is the season 6 finale.)

  • For a real hoot, you have to watch the unaired pilot. Not that it is funny-good, but because it is funny-bad. Some really bad acting and such. But a lot of bits from it did make it into the real pilot. Fun fact, besides Parsons and Galecki, only one actor from the pilot later appeared on the show, and several times at that.

Althea the sperm bank nurse. (Cut from syndication in the real pilot.) Played by Vernee Watson-Johnson who has shown up 5 times so far when they need a nurse.

Season 7 will enter syndication in the fall.

The first season was on the weak side, so starting there might not be best. It is a tough call.

I would say start with the second season and if you like it go back and watch the 1st season later. Season 2 Episode 11 “The Bath Item Gift Hypothesis” is the episode that won me as a fan.

Some of the characterization in the first season were not consistent to the rest of the series and in general the humor was weaker and more generic.

I set my DVR to record every episode that aired regardless of channel, and just deleted any duplicates every few days. Between TBS and (IIRC) 2 local affiliates airing it every damn night, I had all 5 seasons (it was at the time) recorded in a matter of 6 weeks or so. And once I had a good chunk of season 1, I could start watching them.

Thanks so much. I think Ill take the DVR option, and try to keep in mind the first season is maybe not as good.

I don’t see the problem with the first season. It is my favorite season. Lots of good episodes. I strongly recommend not just watching it but start watching from there.

The first season introduced the characters. It takes a while to learn all their eccentricities.

Personally, I thought it took five or six episodes to hit its stride, not the whole first season.
