How do shellfish give birth?

HOW!?!

Squirt out eggs? That then hatch? I think one of plankton’s components are larval shellfish.

Some shellfish may lay eggs that are then externally fertilized…

I’ll see if I can find something more…

ETA: Here’s info on oysters spawning.

Missed the edit window…

And here is info on lobsters.

They and other arthropods drop packets of eggs that are then fertilized…

I suppose the little cuties whirl around in water as plankton until they are big enough to thrive.

Hahaha. Raunchy.
Thanks!

You’re welcome…

Anything to be able to talk about shark bait!

The great scallop … this tatty, scrofulous old rapist, is second in depravity only to the common clam. This latter is a right whore, a harlot, a trollop, a cynical bed-hopping firm-breasted Rabelaisian bit of sea food that makes Fanny Hill look like a dead Pope… and finally among the lamellibranch bivalves, that most depraved of the whole sub-species - the whelk. The whelk is nothing but a homosexual of the worst kind. This gay boy of the gastropods, this queer crustacean, this mincing mollusc, this screaming, prancing, limp-wristed queen of the deep makes me sick.

Isn’t there anything else on the telly … ?

You’re trying to be funny, but you’re pushing it.

Whoosh p’raps?

ahem

Whoosh!

Not a whoosh. Tasteless. I’d need a video to get why stomping and killing something homosexual is funny.

It’s a freaking Monty Python sketch! The absurdity of it is the POINT! The sketch is making fun of the British television-watching public’s prurient interest, not gay men.

sigh
(we’re Asked/Answered here, right?)

You either get Monty Python, or you don’t. How to explain that it’s not the stamping that’s funny, it’s the charicatures of narrow-minded, unimaginative gits behaving like stereotypical narrow-minded, unimaginative gits?

I’m supposed to be familiar with Monty Python sketches in GQ? Maybe a link to the video would help. I like to think I’m not that touchy, but there was no context or link to humor and this isn’t CS.

I’ve never seen that Python sketch either, but c’mon…how can you read the line “a cynical bed-hopping firm-breasted Rabelaisian bit of sea food that makes Fanny Hill look like a dead Pope” and take it seriously?

Yes. Familiarity with Monty Python, Diskworld, Star Wars and most iterations of Star Trek, Broadway musicals, skiffle music, 1960s American sitcoms, John Ford movies, Humphrey Bogart movies, Phil Foglio’s work, some Stephen King, the KJV, Shakespeare, and Superman comics is presumed.

If I say something you find offensive then you have missed the reference. Honest.

No bigs. It was a pop-culture ref. I got whooshed. No harmsies done. Carry on.

Skiffle music?

I’d better pull me socks up…

Are you sure you’re not my other personality posting under a different account?

As plankton? Aren’t plankton an entirely different sort of creature? Wait, maybe you’re right. I’ll be damned.
