Ok, I admit it. I’m a Singo-holic. For those of you who don’t know what Slingo is, it is game that’s a mix of bingo and slot machine and it’s a lot of fun. You can go to http://www.slingo.com to check it out…
BUT
Here’s the thing:
How does the trial version game “know” if you have deleted an expired download trial version and tried to reinstall a fresh download? It will always pop up: “Your trial has expired”
I have tried to beat this by editing my windows registry, and deleting cookie files, but they still “know” if I am trying to beat the trial period. HOW HOW HOW? Is there anyway to beat their “trial-expiration-bug?”
I am getting the cd-rom version of the game for permanent use, and I already have the handheld lcd version, but I still want to know how the above works.
footnote: The trial version is FREE and they discontinued the cd-rom and handheld versions of the game, despite the popularity of Slingo. What do they have to “lose” by letting you DL the game for permanent use? Is this another monopolization tactic by America Online ?
If you have America Online, each of the online games creates a file in your IDB directory within the AOL folder (for storing scores and such.) The relevant files for Slingo are app71.lst and app71.ind – if you have AOL, just delete those two files and you can re-download.
