I was just looking at a gold herringbone bracelet of my wife’s and was wondering how on earth it is made and how the links join together. The links are tiny. It’s obviously an automated manufacturing process but I want to know how it is done.

I suspect that the basic chain is usually woven or crocheted rather than linked and soldered [sup]*[/sup]
Once you have a chain, the Sisma TRA/V Chain Compacting Machine and BT15 Chain Hammering Machine can convert it to a flattened herringbone.
[sup]*[/sup] I could easily be wrong on that. The video towards the bottom of this page (Making jewelry chain by machine) shows, about 2/3 of the way through, automated soldering of a chain which might become a herringbone.
