Here you go
ROTFL!!! I did not know about these.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.
Watch the original “V” mini series for eating technique.
Safe travels, nellie!
Gummi rats?? I… just… can’t…
I had a great sleep, once I finally dropped off - weird, because I was falling asleep in my recliner, but once I hit the bed… Still, I slept till almost 6! And it’s 59° this morning - once it’s a more reasonable hour, I’ll get out there and mow the ditches. That’s the big plan for today. I’ll also finish the first preggo dress and convert the weird old preggo dress into a skirt (the “sleeves” on the old one are just weird. Daughter bought the dress for photos - it’s too long to wear for realsies. I don’t get it…)
I also need to run the dishwasher - we’ve used almost all of our preferred drinking glasses, and the top rack is just about full. So I’ll put the remaining glasses on the bottom and run a load. Too easy - hardly counts as a chore.
FCD will be working most of the day. It looks like they’ll finally build a prototype of the heat sink he designed but he needs to run several analysis cases first so they can get flight clearance. It’s going on an F/A-18 and they need to test it at supersonic, just to be sure it doesn’t cause the plane to fall out of the sky. Details, details… Anyway, he’s got stuff to do, so I’ll find stuff I can do. After being a bum yesterday, I should accomplish something. I need to go to Food Lion - cherries are on sale and I need a bag of Navy beans to make soup.
Next week will be a busy one.
- Moanday - appt at hospital to learn about knee replacement
- Tuesday - baseball game (watching, not playing!)
- Wednesday - dentist appt
- Thursday - wrangle Roxy while daughter goes for ultrasound and something else I can’t recall
- Firday - nothing so far…
I looked at local movie listings - nah. I don’t like superhero/comic book movies, don’t like horror, sick to death of Fast and Furious franchise (FCD has watched it over and over and over on TV) and not at all interested in Cruella or animated stuff. I do want to see In The Heights, but he doesn’t and we’ve got that on HBO (daughter shares her subscription with us) so I can watch it in the comfort of my recliner. I don’t much like going to movies anyway, but spousal unit does and if I can find something I don’t hate, I would go with him. Not this weekend, tho.
More than you wanted to know, I’m sure. Happy Saturday!!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 74 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 91 and looks like maybe somewhat N.O.S. by the afternoon. Or not. TWPTB just do not know, apparently. The big plan of the day is a mini soiree out by the cee-mint pond followed by a mid to late afternoon feast of smoked ribs 'n chikin, baked beans, N.O.T. sallit, garlic bread and cheesecake with strawberries. YUM! We shall have some munchies out by the cee-mint pond, as well.
MOOOOOOM I can’t even remember the last time we were at the movies. Maybe fifteen years? The desire to go is just not there.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah,
Happy Sattidy Y’all!
Morning all. Early to bed and early to rise makes a man…grumpy (I think Ben Franklin had to write that when he was a young man). Headed for 84F and no rain, might even get outside to enjoy the day.
Nettie, hope having another supervisor makes life there a little less heinous…
nellie, hope the airport wasn’t too bad and you’re safely ensconced in your hotel.
OK, onward into Sattiday.
Our beloved local stone fruit orchard can’t sell their fruit piecemeal anymore, due to the pandemic. You must buy a whole two pound basket of it at a time. I wasn’t going to go without their fruit this year, so I bought two pounds each of peaches, apricots, and plums. That’s way too much for us to eat up before it goes off.
So as soon as I’ve drunk up this big mug of tea, I’m going to the kitchen to cut some of it up and bake a crumble? crisp? cobbler?. I want the one which has sweet crisp crumbly stuff on top, but I don’t want any oats in it. I’m not sure which to call it.
FCM, I’m of your way of thinking entirely about movies, and my husband hates modern movies completely and will never go to a theater again. I go about every other year to some English costume drama or hard science fiction flick. Has FCD seen Baby Driver? That was on broadcast TV a few nights ago, and I watched it. I’m not a car chase movie fan at all, but I thought it was terrific, because it was clever and quirky and wasn’t just about racing and crashing. And almost all of the car scenes were real and not CGI.
Mowage and weed whackage is done. I went to the side of the house where the compressor lives - OMG, that poor tech had to fight his way thru a jungle! I feel awful about that. And I beat it all into submission. Too little, too late, tho.
Now, having showered (and scrubbed the soap scum off the shower doors) I’m about to head to Food Lion. It’s still under 70°, but I know it won’t last. Another heat wave is on the way, along with, potentially, the remnants of Elsa at the end of the week. I’ll deal with that when the time come. For now, I’ll get the dishwasher started, then head to Leonardtown.
Onward!!!
I need to mow, but alas!, it’s raining. Perhaps later. Guess it can be a day of shoving the vacu-suck around and scrubbing various surfaces.
Bon voyage nellie!
Moooooom, I haven’t been to the first run cinema for a few years. I’ve been to the local vintage / artsy cinema a few times since the first run one, but the last movie that I recall seeing new was Malevent.
teela, in my eyes, a crumble is the fruit topped with a crumbly mix of sugar, butter and flour, a crisp is the one with oatmeal, butter and sugar and a cobbler is fruit topped with biscuit or cookie dough and baked. Not sure if those are the official definitions of them, but they make sense to me.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of towels ready for the dryer and fixing to do KP before picking up some groceries. I’ve been invited to a party this evening, but I don’t know if I’ll go. I’m beat from EoM and we aren’t completely closed out yet, so the three days that I irk next week will likely entail at least 30 hours. Then it’s off to Indiana for my 40 year HS reunion.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Girls night for fireworks tomorrow! Daughter wants to take Roxy. SIL has to work and FCD’s knees just can’t take it, so the 3 of us are going to the Blue Crabs’ stadium. They’ll have food, music, and the kids’ park is free. Then fireworks at 9:30.
The things we do for our spoiled grandkids…
Off work, and I’m off Monday, too!
And tonight the neighbors will celebrate the Feast of Anatolius of Ladiocea, with the traditional fireworks
This is why there is an old Air Force proverb: Never fly the “A” model of anything…
Yeah, well, NAS Pax is home to Flight Test School - those guys are nuts!! They’ll fly anything! And the antenna/heat sink isn’t going on the A model. I think it’s on the F/A-18D (or E?) Not my project, not my monkeys…
Super Hornet is the E/F models. But it would be the A model of the FairyChatGizmo
Correction: FIVE cats (a couple of them Siamese, even) plus a dog built like a particularly sturdy coffee table. Spent the whole night surrounded by critters.
Sounds like an ideal evening! Hope copious skritches were given and enjoyed by all parties.
I Looooove fireworks!
The bigger the boom, the bigger the lightshow, the better.
I also really enjoy personal fireworks. Brings out the kid in me every time.
Sounds like a delightful time. My sister-in-law had a Rottweiler who was the sweetest thing. He was always thumping his head on the underside of the coffee table, the dining table, etc. So reading this reminds me of the distinct THUNK his head would make.
Not recommended for humans, though. Table meeting head hurts.
Tried to order pizza, forgot about the football/soccer. Bar place is not doing delivery tonight and/or is overwhelmed. Should have thought to check the schedule before ordering.
Ordered Indian food, just have to wait another 30 minutes.
Tried a Rob Roy as I’m still trying to finish off the Sweet Vermouth. I bought the cheap stuff, which I won’t do again. Next time I’ll let a bartender concoct the cocktail.
Do like the Boulevardier, even though it may not be authentic. But there’s something to be said about the simplicity of a Paloma. And now I have Maraschino cherries to use up, so I guess I’ll take a look at recipes using them.
I’m using my Western Maryland Railroad wine glass, which is a stemless wine glass, for the cocktail. We’ve been on the train twice, but the second time part of the track was closed. Wouldn’t mind going again after they get the steam locomotive up and running, but we probably won’t be in that corner for a while (1-2 years), unless we decide to drive to Nashville. Which could work. Or we take a train (Capitol Limited) from DC to Chicago. Less likely, though.
No fireworks here, unless Mother Nature gets involved. And it’s raining, again.
Stay safe. Do not mix fireworks and alcohol. Even better, leave the fireworks to the professionals.
I’ve finished preggo dress #1 and I converted the purple preggo dress into a purple skirt. I think that’s enough for today.
First car load 'o junk across the country achieved. About 7 hours of driving, which is more than enough for one day. I think about half the country has forgotten how to drive over the last year- I’ve never seen so many lunatics weaving over the road. People have either not been driving or if they have, they’ve got used to the roads being empty.
I’m happy about the new place- though generally being a lodger isn’t the best, I’ve known them for over a decade, and they’re really nice and easy going, and are fine with me basically living there until I can find a flat near the new uni rather than contracting for a set time.
It’s pleasant quirky chaos rather than the dingy miserable chaos of this place. The room’s bigger, cheaper, has a really lovely view -it’s 20 minutes walk from the city centre, but the back of the house could be in the middle of the countryside- all you can see is trees and wildflower filled grass, you can’t even hear any traffic, just birdies, and the wifi reaches a table in the back garden, so I could work outside on nice days and I even have other friends living within walking distance.
I even got fed, and I was only supposed to be there for a look round. I’m only going to be there 2 months. That is the plus side of staying in an absolute dump for 6 months- everything else starts looking amazing…
