How do we feel about teachers fired for posting homemade porn?

Let me rephrase: the enlightened members of society realize racism is wrong. The idiots don’t. Unfortunately there are lots of idiots in the world.

Completely agree, but at least society as a whole has (still precariously, unfortunately) reached a point where at least some manifestations of such prejudices are officially deprecated, to the extent of being forbidden by law. Members of a racial minority group are a protected class in civil-rights legislation, and it’s not legal to fire somebody for being one.

Sex workers, on the other hand, are not (yet) a protected class.

A problem that could be solved by simply getting rid of the idiots in the world!
Or so I’m led to believe.

[Jaws] You’re gonna need a bigger nuclear warhead {/jaws]

How am I slut shaming her?
I didn’t tell her to do what she did.
I didn’t consume what she had for sell?

It’s not my fault society looks down upon people with jobs that are responsible for children doing sex work.

I not responsible for her signing a contract to work for a school district.

Look, she can have her online career. I don’t really give two shits. Hope she makes $1000s for the 3 minutes this career is gonna last.

She can’t have both…she knew it when she blurred her face.

She was not fired. She RESIGNED.
Proof positive she knew she was in the wrong.

Nah, that usually just means you know you aren’t going to win the firing dispute, and maybe you have a chance at some kind of improved severance deal if you voluntarily take the resignation. Sincere repudiation of one’s actions on ethical grounds generally has nothing to do with it.

She did the slut part, you did the shaming part.

I don’t think she’s a slut(whatever that really is).

I think she wanted money…found herself an easy way to get it. It backfired on her.

By saying that it was “wrong” for her to post an online video of herself having sex.

It may have been ill-advised with regards to her career. But using the word “wrong” implies that it was immoral, and that she ought to be ashamed for doing it.

I don’t think that is what a slut is. Hey, maybe I’m wrong…it doesn’t matter.

She shamed herself. She knew it…she hid her identity.
Guess why? She didn’t want to be found out. Why? Because she wanted to keep her teaching position.

She wants more money. Why? To pay off those student loans.

Yeah, right.
Ok. Drive that Mercedes baby. Right down to the Post office to mail that check to your loan company.

Who gives a shit if she’s doing it to pay off her loans or for frivolous luxuries? As long as she’s not buying drugs to shoot up with before teaching class, what’s it to ya?

Her rights don’t include drug use? After hours on her her own time?

How racist…she should be able to do what she pleases. Afterall she hid her identity when she met her dealer.

She’s not doing it in class or anything.

I did say:

So yes if she is doing drugs at home and comes to work sober I don’t really care.

Do YOU?

Are you serious? Drug use does nothing good for you. In fact it can become addictive and destroy your health.

A teacher with crack mouth and sores won’t have a job long either.

That is about the dumbest thing ever, I’ve seen in this thread.

(I’m not talking about marijuana use or drinking a glass of wine or a few beers with your buddies)

ETA…yes I care very much what the teacher of my children is doing.

So, you are OK with drug use.

There’s a difference and you know it.

Yes, just like there’s a difference between OnlyFans and other porn.

We’re just going to have to agree to disagree on the definition of “shame.” To me, shame comes from doing wrong and hurting others. Hiding your identity to protect your privacy (as many of us are doing here this very moment) isn’t about shame. It’s just being practical.

Her porn career will fit right in with her drug use.

But not teaching…

Sorry. I didn’t make the rules.

I don’t agree the Straight Dope is comparable to Only fans.

We don’t have videos to sell

@Cecil_Adams could maybe monetize that way. :slightly_smiling_face:
