How do we fix the wounds in America?

Why are you so concerned with race and ethnicity?

That’s really the crux of the whole matter. Different people want different things and one side is determined to paint another as awful, awful untermenschen for either wanting something different, or not wanting the same things strongly enough.

Probably because the fact many slavers were black throws a monkey wrench into the ‘whitesupremacists are responsible for slavery’ narrative. Hell, even some Native American tribes kept slaves from other tribes they defeated. I’d imagine that at one time or another virtually every ethnic group in the world kept slaves.

White supremacists were responsible for slavery in America. They were responsible for Jim Crow and segregation. They were responsible for lynchings.

That at some point in history there were some bad black people does nothing to absolve the white supremacists of these sins.

And they made up what percentage of the country’s white population?

You and your ideological brethren need to stop blaming an entire country’s worth of people for the actions of a relative few.

In the first place, that’s pretty amusing coming from the guy who constantly tries to blame liberals as a group for violence committed by a few dozen antifa activists.

In the second place, I’m not so sure that the white supremacists iiandyiiii is talking about were really so rare as you’re trying to make out:

The fact that Congress for over three-quarters of a century couldn’t manage to pass a bill against lynching does not suggest that only an insignificant minority was in favor of lynching.

What makes you think that in the days of slavery, Jim Crow, segregation and lynching, only a “relative few” white Americans held views that nowadays would be called white-supremacist? What “percentage of the country’s white population” are you estimating constituted the “relative few” white supremacists?

They made up a very large percentage for most of American history. Only recently has white supremacism not been the norm.

This “reasoning” is unproductive.

  • Some French hated Jews; why blame Hitler?
  • Ancient Romans enslaved Carthaginians; why blame the 17th-century African slavers?
  • There were real estate swindlers before Friedrich Drumpf built his brothel in Alaska; why blame the Trump family?

Now you’ve completely lost me!

Most of us condemn the white supremacists who reacted with glee when one of their ilk mowed down a group of innocent civilians. Did I miss something? Did someone in the thread make a blanket condemnation of the white race?

I extend my condemnation to the “conservatives” who appear on CNN, call the murderer despicable and, without so much as a full stop, continue “but what is even more despicable is the mainstream media coverage.”

And I condemn message board posters who want to imply that finding one decent white man should serve as absolution for all whites, however despicable.
