How do we raise $50,000?

I’m a volunteer working for a new christian community radio station in australia (christian radio stations - christian anything - is pretty rare here in the land of oz). We’ve just been granted a test broadcast license (we started down this road 3 yrs ago) and now we need the funds to get up and running within a couple of months time!

What we need is about $90-100k Australian. We have memberships, and we’re looking for local businesses to sponsor us, but what I’m looking for help with is some BIG fundraising ideas. It needs to be something with a small cost to organise but something that gives a big return (I know, I’m asking a lot)

SO … greatful for your ideas please

How much labor do you have at your disposal?

that’s hard to say, but getting people to volunteer for things is always difficult. Our Station Manager to be just quit her job to be able to work full time for our station - and I have plenty time i can put in myself for various tasks… there are a fwe others who can put in some time, but we’d never get say 50 people to help out

Or, get a partner! Link

I’m sorry for the above joke. At the last minute, I tried to stop the computer from posting, but…too late. :o

heh…hmm…i’m sure they’d go down real well

Car donations are a great way of getting a major chunk of change all at once.

Sell some crack!

Bake Sales, lotsa bake sales!

OK, for that kind of cash, I think you are already looking in the right direction - get businesses to sponser.

There was this Nigerian dude who e-mailed me about $35 MILLION US DOLLARS that he needed someone’s help moving out of the country… Maybe you could make a deal with him?

I’ve done business with this guy PLENTY of time. Excellent guy to work with. A+!

:dubious:

Good luck! I think getting sponsorship from big businesses is the way to go.

I’ve been fundraising for medical research over the past year, and it is NOT easy!

I made $700 over 9 hours in the mall selling raffle tickets, which is not bad I think, but it is VERY tiring and labour intensive. (Imagine walking around bugging 2100 people for money.)

We ended up with $10 000 after heaps of events and things. It would have been easier in a larger community… (Don’t know where you’re from.)

Anyway, yeah that’s from a “get dough off the people” method.
If you can go for businesses… (if you want your weekends for yourself)

That last sentence should have a comma:

“If you can, go for businesses…”

The other more serious suggestion I could offer, although it may be Canada-specific, is to look into the state-run lottery corporation. Of course, your organization may disapprove of such activities, but if they don’t, the lotto corp here gives much of their proceeds away to non-profits…
