How do women urinate?

I feel silly not knowing this at the age of 26 but I’m confused about how women urinate. I previously was sure that, in addition to the vagina, there is a much tinier orifice nearby, which urine comes out of. Someone (a woman) told me once this wasn’t true, that urine comes out of the vagina and there is no additional opening. I asked another friend, a woman, if this was true, and she told me that there are indeed two openings, a vagina and a urethra, and added “she’s an idiot. If she believes that, she has never peed and never used a tampon”. I considered this to close the matter, until yesterday, when my girlfriend told me that there’s only one orifice, the vagina, and that she pees through it.
Can someone please clear this up? I don’t want to have to ask her to prove it.

Your girlfriend is wrong and you should confront her ignorance which is astounding.

Two completely different openings
See this labeled and diagrammed picture of the female human uro-genital area- Female External Genital Anatomy

I’m a guy, but I’ve always been under the impression there are two seperate openings down there. One for liquid/soild waste and another for sex.

The way I understand it, is that urine only seems to come out of the vagina. There’s a little tiny opening you can’t see (under the clitoris, I believe) for the urethra. After that things get fuzzy on me, because I suspect the techical, anatomical boundries of the vagina are not exactly the same as the commonly accepted meaning of the term, or else people wouldn’t go around correcting people for saying what your girlfriend did- it seems like one opening is within the other.

Are you telling me you think women urinate our of their anus?

I am thoroughly embarrassed for my gender by this thread.

This thread has a lot of discussion on the subject.

IANA Doctor, but in all fairness guys - jeez.

Three openings

  • 1 Vagina (connected to the womb)
  • 1 Urethra (connected to the bladder)
  • 1 Anus (Connected to the bowels)

How can someone that obviously have enough of a brain to type (that’s you, OP), not know this ??

I’m stumped

[insert bowling ball joke here]

Right. Complicated by the fact that many people, including some women, tend to assume everything inside the labia majora is “vagina”. The labia majora are the two large “shelves” of flesh that enclose the external female genitalia; the vagina is in there, as are the clitoris, the urethra, and the labia minora (which surround the vagina). The anus is further aft, just like it is for you guys :stuck_out_tongue:

Way too often, boys and girls alike hear the word “vagina” used to mean all the external female parts - when they hear a real word at all, instead of just a vague term like Down There. “Vulva”, though not a common term, is a more accurate word for what can actually be seen from the front.

I have to say, I am utterly amazed by this post.

Ba-dum-dum-tish !!

ROFL

“Pay more attention to your nipples? But you pee through them!”

“What?! Honey, I pee through my…”

[spit take]

You thought liquid and solid waste came from the same opening? Words fail me.

Anyway, this is one of those things I thought everyone knew, until I read a thread where at least four women admitted they hadn’t known this until they read it in that thread. And that’s not even the worst of it.

Pricegal is studying to be a nurse. One of her male classmates, having spent a year in the course, having trained putting catheter on female dummies and watched videos about the procedure, didn’t know. I don’t know how you miss it.

I too am stunned and amazed. Just having gotten over the fact that there are people who think we pee out of our vaginae, I’m faced with the insight that there are actually people who think we pee out of our asses! Tell me this is not what you meant, HPL…

It’s called the meatus.

I learned this term from… well, porn.
Indeed, if ‘Iamnobody22’ (and everyone else) had simply watched more Japanese watersports porn, this thread would have never been necessary. :stuck_out_tongue:

** HPL ** has seen “tubgirl” one too many times. Do not Google “tubgirl”, DO NOT.

Every time I think I can’t have heard anything to shock me, something like this comes along.

Some people think women urinate and defecate out of the same opening?

Some people think urine comes out from the vagina?

Some people think the vagina comprises everything that is covered up by their underwear and don’t realize its specific location and don’t realize that all those other parts have a name?

Some people think the urethra is inside the vagina somehow and that’s why it “appears” that women urinate out of their vagina?
If I didn’t realize people were serious here I’d think this was some kind of joke thread. Didn’t any of these people ever take a 7th grade human body class? Or read a book or come across an article on anatomy? Or LOOK at themselves or their girlfriends???

Um… I actually had to tell an ex SO that she, indeed, did not pee out of her vagina. It took the tampon explanation to convince her.
