How do you carry your (expensive) phone, and has it ever been lost, stolen, or broken?

Seriously. People steal everything and assuming it’s a smart phone, someone could do some serious damage.

I carry a purse, and my cell phone lives in a front pocket thereof. With an Otter box on it, because I can’t be trusted not to drop it down stairwells or over concrete or the like. And because it shares its pocket with my car keys.

My cell phone, when not in use, is only ever in one of two locations - its dedicated pocket of my purse or charging on my computer desk.

I honestly can’t think of anyone who uses a belt clip. I lost my phone once when I left it in a bathroom stall. Returned five minutes later and it was gone. And my iPhone 6 I accidentally smashed into bits when I used its flashlight capabilities on a hatchback. I wedged it between the hatchback and car frame to light the storage area of the car and then forgot about it when I slammed it closed a couple of times. Whoops.

I keep my phone in my back pocket. Whenever I sit down it automatically gets pulled from my pocket and put in front of me. I work in tight places often and have found belt clips to be a hassle.

I carry mine in my handbag (or in a pocket if it’s deep enough). Never had a phone lost, stolen or broken.

My phone has a plastic screen. I don’t know why everyone thinks glass is so much better. I can control the viewing angle, so the old tech is fine. I drop my phone all the time and it never breaks.

I never use a belt clip, or had a phone stolen. I did break one phone by dropping it three times in one week. Each drop did a little more damage, and the touch screen stopped working after the third.

“Broke my phone,” in my case means that it slipped off the arm of the couch and now there’s a crack across a bottom corner. It’s really minor and I don’t intend to get the glass replaced. The phone works just fine.

I carry it in my purse because it’s too big to put in my back pocket, which is what I would prefer. Until recently I carried my old flip phone there. It doesn’t have service but is handier for checking the time while catching a bus than getting out my big smart phone. I also still have my contact numbers in there and the camera still works and–I’m hoping–that I can still call 911 on it, though it might be too old for that function. I should stop at my carrier’s store to see about that.

I lost it once a couple years ago when it worked its way out of my back pocket on the bus heading home from the casino. That necessitated a trip to the charter bus headquarters, which, fortunately, wasn’t too far away. Nearly lost it the same way on a city bus a couple weeks ago but discovered it long before my stop. Now it rides in the front pocket of my purse.

Never lost a phone or had one stolen. I managed to crack a screen on 1 once by dropping it, but I had insurance on it and got a replacement.

I don’t use a belt clip, I had one of those when I had a Nokia 3315 and didn’t like it then. So the phone is either in my pocket or work bag.

I threw one away once. I came home from grocery shopping and both hands would be full, so I put my phone in one of the bags. As I am wont to do, when I unpacked the bags, I ripped off extraneous packaging and threw it in one of the bags, nearly filling it up. It was garbage day, so I took the bag to the garage and wheeled the bin to the curb.

Hours later, I went to use my phone but couldn’t find it. I called it and it went straight to voicemail, which was odd, because it was fully charged. I searched and searched and finally went to check the garbage, but it was empty. I had left it in the bag and covered it with packaging. It either got crushed in the truck compactor, or had already been dumped and buried.

I’m a dumbass.

I agree and will try to remember to be more careful. It’s a bar where I know 99% of the people. The occasional stranger, though. Damn.

I would never wear a belt clip holder as I’m far too fashionable.

However I did once hear my email tone go while I was walking through a dark forest. I pulled out the phone and started reading the email, which caused me to go off the path and trip over a rock, landing flat on my face and because I put my arms out to (unsuccessfully) save myself, I ended up smashing the face of my phone against another rock.

That reminds me. One time when I was walking the dog, I pulled out my phone to read a text message and right at that moment a chestnut came flying out of a tree and hit my phone square in the middle and so hard that it knocked it clear out of my hands onto the concrete sidewalk. Luckily, though, the phone survived.

You got conkered! That’s amazing.

I got my screen repaired the next day but a few weeks later the phone stopped working, meanwhile heating up to a worrying temperature. I pulled the battery immediately and it never worked again. Not sure if the two things were connected but I suspect they were.

I would think you should one or two other poll options. Namely:

  1. I’ve never broken my phone
  2. I’ve never lost my phone or had it stolen.

I recently read that smart phone thefts have become one of the leading crimes in big cities (at least in my big city). Most phones stolen are Apples. Mostly they are stolen by people that just “snatch and grab”. Also a few young people can swarm someone and steal their phone.

But I’m surprised no enterprising company has come up with a product called a “Drop Phone” or “Fake Fone”. For maybe $20, they could sell something that looks like a smart phone and weighs the same and feels the same. So, no one could tell it wasn’t a real phone without spending a few minutes trying to turn it on and trying to use it. A thief who does a “snatch and grab” is not likely going to stick around for a few minutes to try the phone to see if it is real.

But people could wear that “Fake Fone” on a belt clip or somehow have it in view while they could keep their real phone in a pocket (even a “hidden” pocket) and resist the urge to use their real phone in public.

I always carry a “Drop Wallet” or “Fake Wallet” so that if I am ever mugged, I can hand the thief the fake wallet. It contains a few bills (less than $10) and a few coins. It also contains some phoney IDs so that there is no way the thief would know my real name, address or phone.

I call it a “Drop Wallet” because I have no problem with just dropping it in case of a robbery or handing it over to the thief."

Same goes for the smart phone. I’m guessing some smart company could make them and make some good money at the same time.

That’s hilarious.

Never lost nor broken. Keep it in my pocket.

I’ve never lost or broken my phone, nor had it stolen. I carry it in my purse, usually with the opening of the purse zipped closed. I’m very careful.

Prior to my current smart phone, I always carried my cell phone in my bra. The current phone is too big and leaves and unsightly, definately not boob shape rectangle. Never lost my phone, never had it stolen, never dropped it (yet) into the toilet. I have a screen protector and an otterbox case. Dropping it would not hurt it. You’d likely have to throw it at something as hard as you could to maybe hurt it. The case is damn ugly though.

My sister did that until a co-worker recorded a ringtone of “Help, help I’m trapped in Susie’s bra!”
