I had a rockin’ bash a couple weeks ago, but someone spilled beer or some other common party liquid onto my roommates 50 in. projection television. He hasn’t cleaned it yet so I guess he’s waiting for me to do it, but I have no idea how. I’m pretty sure you’re not supposed to use Windex or any other common cleaner. I’ve heard of some uncommon methods such as peanut butter, but I really don’t want to experiment with PB on a $1500.00 TV. Does anybody have the S.D. on this?
I believe mineral spirits would work. That’s how we cleaned our projection screens in the theater… just make sure you wash your hands and ventilate the area.
First:
Consult the manufacturer. Some of these screens are so easily damaged it’s ridiculous!
You will want to use a lint free wiper. Do not use a standard paper towel or kleenex.
You may be able to use a little rubbing alcohol. The alcohol will redissolve the sugars in the dried beer and get them back up off of the surface.
Do not “scrub” the surface. Blot the areas repeatedly until the dried beer begins to lift. Pretend you are cleaning an eggshell and you will do all right.
Avoid any soaps or cleaners unless specifically directed to do so by the manufacturer. If you are unable to get information from the manufacturer, check with a reputable A/V store. Preferrably not one of the big chain stores that hire burger flippers to sell you thousand dollar systems.
Yeah, thats right, contact the manf or the manf website. Its model specific.
