How Do You Do a 'Whisper'?

I have to admit, in the past couple of years or so that I have been posting on these boards, I have never had to use one. But I am still curious. How do you do a “whisper”? I don’t seem to have that option when I post.

Just to take a wild guess, does it go like this:

[WHISPER]Does it go like this?[/WHISPER]

If not, how do you get that option?

To those who answer my question, that you in advance.

You mean like this?

No, Achernar. The weird thing is I have only seen it used rarely on these boards anyways. It is mostly used for so-called “spoilers”. When you are not sure if someone wants to read the info you got, you put it is this solid box. And to read it, the person reading that thread has place his cursor at the top of the box, and scroll down while holding his mouse key down. As I said, I only rarely see it used here.

Maybe this is how it works:

[W]Is this how it works?[/W]

If not, does anyone know what I am talking about?

Test 3:

Is this how it works?

Eureka!!

Well, for all those of you who don’t know how I did that, it goes like this:

It goes like this.

Trial and error. It sometimes works.

Well, apparently disabling the smiles doesn’t disable the Spoiler function like I thought. So, at the risk of posting too many times, here is what I did:

{SPOILER}This is how I did it.{/SPOILER}

Simply replace the braces with brackets. And in case cruel fate yet screws up another post for me, that is “[” then the word “SPOILER” then “]” followed by the info you wante hidden, and then “[”, “/” and so forth.

Ah okay. I’d never heard it called a whisper. Glad you figured it out.

There was at one time (last upgrade of vBB? the BBBoy software on the temp. board?) an option for something called “whisper” which was a coding thing. If it’s available in vBB, it’s been disabled due to abuse.

Whew. I’m relieved to see you’re not a convert to using that hard to read [sub]whisper whisper[/sub] .

[sub]what’s this like?[/sub]

Whenever you see something in a post and you want to know how it’s done, you can click on the quote button. This will show you the coding the poster used. Well, you can’t do that if the thread is closed and it will not show any text the quoted poster has quoted, but it will show you how to do spoilers and such.
