Apparently five cars ran over a man on I-55 in Jackson, Mississippi and only one of them stopped. Link. Apparently one of them called the police from home, but that means three people hit the man and didn’t bother to stop or call the police or anything. How can you run over someone, even if he’s already dead, and not stop? It is disturbing.
Yeah, all the time.
I would stop, but in defense, maybe some didn’t know it was human at 21:20 at night? But the woman who actually called from home, maybe she didn’t have a cell phone, and wasn’t far from the scene, so she called it in later.
I can’t imagine that the first person didn’t know that he’d hit someone, but I can see everyone else not knowing.
My ex-husband has been involved in two accidents where a pedestrian was hit by an automobile on the highway. The first was when a young woman jumped out of the back of a pick-up truck and seven cars ran over her. Mr. Grace was in the seventh car and he said everyone pulled over and you couldn’t really tell what they’d hit. He said they couldn’t tell it was a person until they got close to the body.
The second accident occurred when a man committed suicide by jumping in front of a large truck. The driver, who saw the man stretch his arms out and throw himself into oncoming traffic, was able to avoid hitting the man by swerving into the next lane. My ex-husband was behind the truck and he couldn’t see what the truck was avoiding so he ran over the man. He knew he’d hit something, but he didn’t know what it was.
Nah. Canton is quite a drive from the location of the accident and there are a lot of pay phones on the way. I don’t know why she went all the way home before calling in, but she did return to the scene to let investigators gather evidence from her car and take photos.
That location is fairly dangerous, there are a lot of wrecks, but it is well lighted and I have trouble believing they didn’t know they had hit a person. Although, traffic is usually pretty heavy at that time of night, so maybe they didn’t get a good look at what they had hit. Why they didn’t stop after they knew they had hit something, I can’t answer.
Why in the world this guy was trying to cross the interstate at that point is what baffles me. There are overpasses a short distance in either direction that would be much safer to walk over than trying to get across about ten lanes of traffic moving around 60-70 mph.
