Well, in about two weeks my girlfriend and I will be traveling to India and Nepal for about 31/2 weeks. We have been together for about five years and we have both agreed that the time is right to get married. However, neither of us has any interest in a conventional wedding and would like to get hitched while staying in Katmandu. I hardly have an understanding of legal marriage in the states (US citizen) much less Nepal’s laws. If anybody has had a similar experience or knows what’s what, please do tell, our future depends on it.
Thanks a bunch.
Better not buy the ticket until you find out if there’s a waiting period, like most countries. There’s only one Nevada.
From the U.S. State Department Website, a page on marriage of U.S. Citizens abroad: http://travel.state.gov/marriage.html
This is the link to the U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu, which may be able to give you more details: http://www.south-asia.com/USA/
Good luck and enjoy!
Do not miss the Pilgrim’s Bookstore. It is my favorite in the entire world. Truly.
