Lately, I’ve seen numerous threads (especially in CS) that have polls at the top of the thread. How do you creat them?
When you enter your OP, scroll down a little bit below the Submit Reply and Preview Post buttons. You’ll see a check box for ‘Post a Poll.’ Check that, and after you hit Submit New Thread, you’ll have the option to put in the choices for your poll.
After you’ve typed your OP, before you hit SUBMIT (and hopefully after hitting PREVIEW), scroll down. You’ll see the option to create the poll in the thread. Make sure you check that box before hitting submit. Doing so will automatically take you to the create-a-poll screen. It’s best to decide, first of all, whether you want the poll results to be public or private, whether you want to allow multiple responses, and whether you want to have an automatic ending date. Scrolling down will show you the appropriate options.
Once you’ve done that, scroll back up and fill out the poll questions and possible response fields. You can allow up to 25 possible responses, but doing that many is a good way to get people not to bother.
The limit is 100, but perhaps I shouldn’t tell Skald that, in case it gives him bad ideas. As an example, this thread of mine allowed 100 responses.
Since I JUST SAID that twenty-five is too many, why would telling me that 100 is the actual limit matter?
Also, the usual feckless threats.
The info is also listed in FAQ: Technical Issues for Posting.

So, do you want threats with fecks? Fine, I’ll go down to the supermarket and buy some.
Thanks, guys!

Nope. It’s at least 1000.
I just created* a poll with 5000 options.
*“Created” in the sense that the board brought up the poll screen with 5000 options, but I wasn’t about to fill them all in and submit. I don’t HATE hampsters, just dislike them.
