I spent my first few years in Edinburgh, and went to uni there, and you’d hardly know Edinburgh is a city on the coast. This is despite one of my earliest memories is the beach. Ok, it’s Portobello beach, but still.
There is no such thing as Scotch whiskey.
I would agree. Leith, the former coastal burgh that was merged into Edinburgh, has a lot of history in its own right. It’s where you need to go to see the Royal Yacht. The centre of Edinburgh has a lot for tourists to see, so I I can understand why the outskirts are sometimes overlooked.
I agree with this. Before we moved down South my wife and I lived down in Newhaven. It felt like we were completely cut off from the rest of the city, it took ages to get down from the city centre using public transport, there was nothing really touristy down there apart from the Royal Yacht (itself overpriced) and you had to pass through some of the rougher parts of the city to get there (whoever named one of the blocks of yellow and blue flats off Junction Street “Perseverance House” deserves an award for comedy).
Hmmm, guess this museum I went to Edinburgh is mistaken. I definitely got pretty buzzed on some local drink at the place.
Whisky, not whiskey.
No one expects the grammar police! What with there surprise and fear; fear and surprise tactics!
The errorist are amongst us so they must say vigilant.
Thar’s not grammar, but spelling and a little bit of cultural history and geography.
Which reminds me that the next time I’m in Edinburgh I must try to see some more of Leith than the Scottish Malt Whisky Society.
Golf. They should really stress golf more. I went up there in February and was absolutely amazed that the weather was good enough to get out on the course. And I believe I saw palm trees outdoors; not potted ones but actual trees growing along the coastline. I also hear that there is a pretty good university up there too . . .
