How do you pick who to hire?

Hiring decision has been made, and for better or worse, this thread influenced the outcome! Well in truth the advice on here (no I’m not referring to Mad Max’s advice!!!) was reflected by offline suggestions I received and I subsequently picked someone who had the best combination of personality+qualifications, rather than placing too much emphasis on C.Vs alone.

Tomorrows I’ll send out the rejection notices. It would be nice to be in a position to hire everybody. oh well.

Oh darn, I’m too late. For future reference, my husband – who is a wise man indeed – says that when faced with equal candidates, he hires the person wearing the nicest shoes.

Honestly. He believes the whole package is important and one who would overlook their shoes would overlook other small details as well. In his world, getting hired is the difference between Johnston & Murphy and Bruno Magli. Subtle and stupid, but somehow it works.
