How do you pronounce the word for 'tire' in Portuguese?

It’s something like ‘pneumos’ and we were wondering whether you pronounce the ‘p’ or if it’s silent. The Spanish version doesn’t have the ‘p’ at all.

Yes, you pronounce the ‘p’.

I should say that I had six months of intensive Portuguese at the Foreign Service Institute and then lived in Lisbon for two years. Here’s a mouthful:

pneumonia: p-nay’-oo-moh-nee’-a

Thanks! We couldn’t decide whether it fell under “imported foreign words that have weird spelling” or “pronounce every consonant”.

Yup. No “p” in “llanta.”
Oh, you mean “neúmataticos” – no one ever really says that in US or Mexican Spanish.
