I say /ˈvɪə̯.kəl/ which is probably best rendered something like VEER-kuhl. As in how you might swerve your car to murder someone - specifically a Kiwi.
Huh. I guess it would be, in a non-rhotic accent.
That IPA is exactly how I say it.
(or almost. I might use /i/ instead of /ɪ/, but those are hard to distinguish when being conceived before /r/)
The way I think I learnt it (as a non-native speaker) is with two syllables rather than three and a silent H, so something like “veakel”. But perhaps that’s of my own making and nobody actually taught me that.
