Frankly, I think this is a good thing. As gasoline gets more expensive, sales of these behemoths will probably decline-leading to losses.
The Chinese will get to share in losses, not just profits.
Or will they move the whole assembly operation to China?

It’s very likely to be an Chinese re-production of how the word sounds in English, using Mandarin tones, in piyin. Like how Washington is called hua-shen-dun. A search at the same site yield. My guess is mostly like ‘heng-er’
If Wikipedia and the on-line Chinese-English Dictionary are to be believed, it’s 悍馬 or Hànmǎ, (which if you actually literally translated it syllable-for-syllable comes out as “brave horse”). Although the Chinese-English Dictionary translates 悍馬 as “High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle”, so 悍馬 may be more the original “Humvee” than the subsequent civilian spin-off. (“Jeep” is evidently 吉普 or 吉普汽车, Jípǔ or Jípǔqìchē, which would literally render as “good luck” or “lucky car”.)

Some stuff doesn’t translate right? If they to to talk about the SDMB on chinese t.v. for example wouldn’t it be something like… Ching chow badda bing yadda yadda SDMB la choy chung king…?
