How do you spend New Year's Eve?

I can’t remember the last time I didn’t work on New Year’s Day.

I’ll be in bed long before 11PM.

Whee.

We’ll be doing the other Japanese tradition, watching *Kouhaku Uta Gassen *(Red and White Song Contest) on TVJapan. If my hubby feels like making traditional Japanese food, we might have that; otherwise, a nice cheese, good crackers, and champagne. The program is over at 10 pm, so after that is up in the air. Chances are, having had the champagne, it will be beddy-byes for us. Only to be woken up by the neighborhood yahoos and their fireworks, which will go on until 2:30 or so (although it will be down in the low 40’s tonight in SF which no-one here is used to, so we might be spared some of it).

Alone in my room, the same as most of the last 20 years or so.

I’ve never been to a NYE party. I’ve only went out twice, once it 85 by myself, and in 1993 with my then boyfriend.

I’ll probably be playing SMAC. Damn mindworms!

Usually I work. I’m not a party goer or a fireworks watcher, so I choose to work NYE/NYD so that those who are, can go out and have fun.

Usually I stay in and watch Anderson and Kathy and see if I can stay up until midnight. However, for the past few years a friend and I have gotten into the habit of going out to eat (but still being home by about 10). This year we’re hitting up a tapas place that has an all you can eat NYE menu and we’ll probably be out of there before the craziness starts. Then the cats and I will tune to CNN as planned.

(Incidentally it’s one of Jose Andres’ places so I was looking at his wiki and noticed that he was the culinary consultant for Hannibal. Needless to say, I will NOT be ordering the liver with fava beans!)

I’ll be at work until about 11:15, then head home, have a beer and hit the sack.

I’ll be doing what I do almost every evening - reading or mucking about on the computer. I have to be at work at 0900 on the first, so I hope to be in bed (and possibly even asleep) by midnight.

I’ll be working till 10:30-unless we get to go home early, which I doubt. I’ll go home, drink a beer or 2 and watch Netflix. Just me and the dogs and cat.

Yeah, I’m a party animal.

Last year I had some chai and graham crackers. I put some honey in the tea because I was OUT OF CONTROL!

We are going to a neighbor’s house from 8-10, and we will celebrate New Year’s at 10. We will pretend we are on Prince Edward Island, I guess.

Then home to bed. Or really, TV and books.

One year we spent it beating the fires out of lit curbside Christmas trees. We’d gone outside to see if any of the fireworks that we could hear were visible and saw what looked like a yard on fire half a block away. I’ll give the assholes credit for making sure the trees were in the gutter with nothing hanging over them. But once we got to the cross street, we could see that they’d lit up about 4 blocks worth.

The last couple of years? Watching my brother’s kids so he and the missus can go out and get flat ass drunk and not worry about the kids. Pretty much my ‘social’ life in a nutshell lol Watching other peoples’ kids so they can have fun.

The kids are at the ages where it’s exciting for them to stay up (11 & 13). I’m at the age where a good night’s sleep is pretty darn exciting, though, so whether I join them remains to be seen. I’d like to, given that they’re still willing to let me hug and kiss them and share their excitement, but I’m pretty exhausted lately. Luckily they’re also at the ages where they will sleep in the next morning or otherwise fend for themselves.

I have to work till 9 tonight, and be back at work at 9 tomorrow morning.*

I’ll be sleeping.

*Being willing to work holidays is one way to keep a job.

It’s New Year’s Eve here in Taiwan. My wife and kids are up at the grandparents’ place so I am just having a quiet time by myself. I called a friend on Skype and chatted for a while. It’s after 11:00 but I don’t know if I’ll stay up or not. We both laughed about how unexciting we are.

Currently, I’m doing laundry.

You’re pretty much describing my college years! Yeah, I was that pathetic, not the vivacious party animal I am today… :stuck_out_tongue:

We are going to late matinee (out at 4:15) then come home and make good dinner. Watch Anderson Cooper and shoot the shit and go to bed at 11 once ball drops.

We got an unexpected surprise! I had called a week ago to see if we could get reservations for NYE at a favorite local restaurant, The Twisted Thistle. The hostess told me they had booked up a month ago.

Yesterday the hostess called me (she had my number from confirming previous reservations). They had a last minute cancellation, for our favorite table right by the fireplace. WooHooooo!!!

Lol well I’m in my late 30s so that makes it even more pathetic I suppose. Oh well, it keeps my daughter entertained for an evening with her cousins over.
