The stories about people not liking steak until later in life when they were exposed to a properly cooked steak reminded me of a guy I went to college with years ago.
Until he was in college and some friends pretty much dragged him out and forced him to have a good steak he had hated steak because his mother’s technique was to “boil it brown”.
I still think shoe leather whenever that story comes to mind. Bleagh.
ETA: And to everyone who’s now craving steak I’d like to say I’m sorry. But my momma always taught me not to lie.
Medium-well with a good helping of A-1 sauce.
I grew up in a family that bought cheap steaks and cooked them until at least well done so I have never liked steaks. Sometimes I’ll have occasion to try one and they aren’t bad but I can’t go as far as rare. Medium is as bloody as I can take.
Rare, because I like anything from blue-rare to medium rare.
As my Momma always said, it should be able to recover with a little TLC.
Actually, let me mention that used in moderation a1 can actually enhance a proper rare steak. Not dumped on and drenching, but a small amount, and dip a corner of the bite into it. It is a bit richer than just pepper, think of it as pepper plus a maitre d’hote butter. [or some butter/herb combination to your liking.] Though I really dislike this fashion of buttering steaks.
Of course if it is a cheap steak, then on with the a1 and let cry the hounds of war!
